The Gnostic Hymn unlocks a "premium route" in the Battle Pass, allowing you to get better items as you progress through it. Note that you'll only get rewards for Battle Pass levels you've already unlocked. If you want to boost Battle Pass levels too, you'll need to buy the Gnostic Chorus pass.
If you're focused on getting characters, purchase Genesis Crystals instead. However, if you want to get a 4 star weapon, this could be a good option for you.
