All Possible Ways to Get Free Primogems in Genshin Impact (2024)

Primogems are highly sought-after currency in Genshin Impact, used mainly on Character and Weapon Wishes. It can also be used to refill Resin or purchase Battle Pass levels, although those are inadvisable due to how scarce Primogems are.

Unless purchased with real money, it typically takes quite a while to amass a sizable portion of free Primogems, as each Wish costs 160 of them. Free-to-play or low-spending players may therefore wish to seek out all available sources of free Primogems.

In this guide, we will cover all possible ways to earn free Primogems, so let’s get started.

All Possible Ways to Get Free Primogems in Genshin Impact (1)

Daily Commissions

Daily Commissions are unlocked upon reaching Adventure Rank 12 and they offer a consistent source of free Primogems every day. There are four random Commissions available every day on the server’s reset. Each Commission grants 10 Primogems upon completion and talking to Katheryne after all four are done will grant an additional 20 Primogems. A total of 60 Primogems may be obtained this way every day.

Initially, players may only receive Commissions from Mondstadt, but more regions become available as players progress. Players may choose the region in which they prefer to receive Commissions from in their Adventurer Handbooks (F1). 60 Primogems may not seem like much, but they do add up over time. Commissions only take a few minutes each day, so be sure not to miss out on them, as unfinished ones do not roll over to the next day.

Spiral Abyss

The Spiral Abyss is a special Domain located on Musk Reef, towards the east of Mondstadt. There are 12 floors in the Spiral Abyss, with each containing three ‘Chambers’ of challenges. The challenges consist of either clearing enemies within certain time limits or protecting the health of Monoliths. The first eight floors, otherwise known as Abyss Corridor, offer one time completion rewards. 100 Primogems are rewarded for every three stars that a player achieves in each floor, up to a total of nine stars, meaning a possible of 300 Primogems per floor. A total of 2,400 Primogems may be received from across the eight floors of the Abyss Corridor.

After completing the Abyss Corridor, players unlock the Abyssal Moon Spire, which consists of floors 9 to 12. Every three stars of each floor rewards 50 Primogems, for a total of 150 per floor. Unlike the Abyss Corridor, the rewards for the Spire resets on the 1st and 16th of each month. This means that players can receive up to 600 Primogems each reset, for a total of 1,200 per month.

The Spiral Abyss is quite challenging and reaching the max of 36 stars every reset can be a tall task for many players. Every few resets, some enemies within the Spire may be swapped out for new and stronger variations. In addition, Blessings of the Abyssal Moon, which are buffs provided to the player, changes every reset and may not be beneficial to every player’s roster of characters. The amount of Primogems may not be worth the effort or stress needed to achieve full 36 stars. It is completely fine to do only floors 9 and 10, which are considerably easier, or to skip the Spiral Abyss altogether.

Achievements

Achievements in Genshin provide a decent source of one-time Primogem rewards. Players can access this in Paimon’s Menu to see the various categories and requirements for these Achievements. Majority of the Achievements provide 5 Primogems upon completion, with some rewarding up to 10 and 20.

In addition, there are many ‘Hidden Achievements’ not shown in the menu until completion. Once completed, Hidden Achievements will be shown under the category ‘Wonders of the World’. Unfortunately, there is no way to acquire information about them in game prior to completion, meaning players must search for them online. It is also quite difficult to dig through Wonders of the World as the list is quite long and unorganized. Although the in-game search bar function may be useful, it is still suggested to use third party sites like Paimon.moe or TakaGG to help keep track of progress.

It may not seem like a lot but doing Achievements does contribute to a player’s stash of Primogems. Currently, as of version 3.1, there are over 800 Achievements and over 6,300 Primogems to be collected from them, with more to come in the future.

Adventure Rank Rewards

Adventure Rank (AR) is essentially the level of a player’s account, and it dictates what players have access to in the game. To level up AR, players need to gain Adventure EXP, which can be gained from a variety of sources. These include Daily Commissions, Archon Quests, Story Quests, World Quests, Hangout Events, Chests, Adventurer Handbook, Statues of the Seven, and spending Original Resin.

Each time players level up their AR, they may talk to Katheryne for various rewards, which occasionally includes Primogems. In addition to Primogems, some Ranks may also reward Acquaint Fates. Each Acquaint Fate is essentially one Wish, or 160 Primogems, although they may only be used on the ‘Standard Wish’.

Players can obtain a total of 1,100 Primogems and 19 Acquaint Fates by the time they hit the max AR of 60.

Quests

Various quests in Genshin can also provide one-time Primogems as rewards. Archon Quests follow the main storyline and are mainly locked behind Adventure Rank. World Quests are various side quests and stories that players may come across during their travels in Teyvat. Some World Quests provide Primogems as rewards, but not all of them do. Story Quests are centered around specific playable characters and players must meet several requirements to unlock them. Players may need to complete prior chapters, Archon Quests, other Story Quests, reach certain AR, or spend ‘Story Keys’.

Players gain access to Story Keys at AR 26, and they may claim a key each time they complete eight Daily Commissions. Only a maximum of three Story Keys may be held at any given time. Story Quests that appear before AR 32 do not require any Keys, while ones that appear after AR 32 require one Story Key.

Hangout Events are visual novel-esque quests that center on specific playable characters. These Events have multiple endings and Primogems are awarded depending on how many endings the players have reached. The requirements for Hangout Events are similar to Story Quests, aside from the fact that Events cost two Story Keys instead of one.

In addition to the Primogems obtained from quest rewards, many Achievements are also tied to these quests. All available quests may be viewed from the Quest Menu (J).

Adventurer Handbook

The Adventurer Handbook contains information such as Commissions, Domains, Enemies, and most importantly Experience. The Experience tab offers various first-time completion rewards based on players’ progressions. There are currently nine chapters in the Experience tab, with each having several tasks such as opening chests, activating Waypoints, leveling characters, defeating bosses, and more. Completing everything will reward players with a total of 900 Primogems and two Acquaint Fates.

Exploration

Exploration is a huge part of the game and many aspects of it also provide Primogems as rewards.

Chests can be found throughout the world of Teyvat and offer various rewards, oftentimes including Primogems. Depending on the rarity and type of chests, players may receive anywhere between zero to 40 Primogems per chest.

One-Time Domains offer first-time completion rewards, which include 40 Primogems and 500 Adventure EXP each. There is currently a total of 19 One-Time Domains throughout the world.

Teleport Waypoints and Statues of the Seven both give out five Primogems each time players unlock one. Players can also gain Primogems for leveling up Statues of the Seven in each of the major regions. Statues of the Seven require their respective region’s ‘Oculi’ as offerings in order to level up, and all Statues of the same region share the same level. There are a total of 90 Primogems from the Anemo Statues, 90 from the Geo Statues, 540 from the Electro Statues, and 540 from the Dendro Statues.

On a related note, there are also several similar ‘Offering Systems’ in each region that require players to feed certain items to level up. These include the Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine, the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma, the Lumenstone Adjuvant in Chasm, and the Tree of Dreams in Sumeru. Although the rewards do not include Primogems, they do include Intertwined Fates and Acquaint Fates. Intertwined Fates act the same as Acquaint Fates except for the fact that they are used on Character and Weapon Event Wishes, and not the Standard Wish.

The Frostbearing Tree requires offerings of Crimson Agates, which are similar to Oculi but residing only in Dragonspine. Rewards a total of four Acquaint Fates and 2 Intertwined Fates.

The Sacred Sakura requires offerings of Electro Sigils, which can be found in chests, One-Time Domains, and Statue of The Seven rewards. Rewards a total of 20 Acquaint Fates and 10 Intertwined Fates.

The Lumenstone Adjuvant in Chasm requires offerings of Lumenspar, which are similar to Oculi but residing only in Chasm. Rewards a total of four Acquaint Fates and 2 Intertwined Fates.

The Tree of Dreams requires offerings of Dendro Sigils, which can be found in the same way as Electro Sigils, but only within the region of Sumeru. Rewards a total of 12 Acquaint Fates and 6 Intertwined Fates.

In addition, encountering various new elements, features, enemies, and items for the first time can also give small amounts of Primogems. New encounters are registered into players’ ‘Tutorials’ menu (G) and reward one to two Primogems each when they are read.

For players that prefer efficiency in exploring and do not mind spoilers, they may try using the official ‘Teyvat Interactive Map’. The interactive map contains locations of all the important aspects of the game, including chests, puzzles, enemies, Oculi, materials, World Quests, and more. Players can find this map on HoYoLAB, the official forums for HoYoverse games. There is no need to login to use the map but using one’s Genshin account allows players to save pin information and keep track of their various exploration progress.

Events

A big source of free Primogems come from limited time Events that happen throughout each version of the game. The Events can range from various in-game activities to Special Web Events and Login Rewards. Players can usually find information about them in the ‘Notices’ section of Paimon’s Menu or in Events Overview (F5).

For example, the Test Run is a recurring mini event that happens every time new Wish Banners are released, usually twice per version. This event allows you to test characters featured on current Wishes and receive some rewards for doing so. Test trialing featured 5-star characters provides 20 Primogems each.

Another recurring event is the Battle Pass (F4), which starts and ends with each version of the game. The Sojourner’s Battle Pass is available for free while the Gnostic Hymn is an additional tier locked behind real currency. Although there are no Primogems in the free Pass, it is worth mentioning that they contain five Acquaint Fates every Battle Pass Period. Players can progress through the Battle Pass by completing various tasks.

The official forums, HoYoLAB, also runs a separate daily login event every month, called the ‘Community Daily Check-In’. Usually, a total of 60 Primogems will be part of the login rewards, which resets on the first day of each month. Players will need to check-in a certain number of days before they can reach the Primogem rewards. Players that miss out on days can claim ‘Check-In Make-up Cards’, up to a total of three times per month.

In addition to these events, players should also keep their eyes out for special livestreams and promotional events. Usually seven to 10 days before a version update, the developers hold special livestream announcements on their official Twitch and YouTube channels to introduce upcoming content. Every version livestream tends to give out three codes, each rewarding 100 Primogems when redeemed at HoYoVerse. Players who miss the streams can usually find the codes on Genshin’s Reddit page. Keep in mind however, the Codes expire 24 hours after they are revealed. Unfortunately, recently they seemed to have imposed claim limits on these codes as well. This means that if a certain number of codes have already been claimed, they may no longer be claimable even before the 24 hours limit.

Players should also pay attention to their in-game mail as Primogems are regularly gifted as compensation for version maintenance and other special promotions.

Serenitea Pot

The Serenitea Pot, or Teapot, is the player housing system that unlocks after reaching AR 28 and completing Chapter I, Act III of the Archon Quest, followed by the World Quest, ‘A Teapot To Call Home’. Players can earn Primogems each time they level up their ‘Trust Rank’ inside their Teapot, which they can check by talking to Tubby, the Teapot Spirit. There are 10 levels of Trust Rank and each level rewards 60 Primogems. Players can earn Trust each time they create a new Furnishing for the first time.

Primogems can also be received when players create specific ‘Gift Sets’ for their characters. Every character has two Gift Sets that they favor. After creating and placing a Gift Set in the Teapot, characters that favor it can be invited to the set for a special dialogue. Completing the dialogue for the first time gives 20 Primogems, meaning a total of 40 Primogems per character, if both their sets are made.

All Possible Ways to Get Free Primogems in Genshin Impact (13)

Normally if the character is already placed in the Teapot, they will automatically be ‘invited’ to initiate their Gift Set dialogue. However, there may only be one character invited to a set at a time, so players may need to manually replace the current character occupying the spot.

Masterless Stardust and Starglitter Exchange

Though they may not be direct sources of Primogems, the Stardust and Starglitter Exchange system in the Shop allows players to acquire additional Intertwined and Acquaint Fates.

Masterless Stardust can be acquired every time players receive a 3-star weapon from Wishes. Each 3-star weapon acquired this way grants 15 Masterless Stardust. Players can use the Stardust in the Shop to exchange for various goods, including up to five Intertwined Fates and five Acquaint Fates each month. Each Fate costs 75 Masterless Stardust.

Masterless Starglitter can be acquired every time the player receives a duplicate four- or five-star weapon or character. The amount of Starglitter gained depends on the rarity and the Constellation progress of the character. Unlike the Stardust Exchange, there is no limit to how many Fates players can trade for each month. Each Fate costs five Masterless Starglitter.

Character Ascension

Lastly, players can also receive Acquaint Fates whenever they Ascend their characters to certain Ascension Phases. Every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Ascension of a character rewards one Acquaint Fate each.

Conclusion

Primogems are not easy to come by and can take quite some patience to save up, especially without spending any real money. Despite the Primogem scarcity, Genshin Impact does balance this out by having one of the best Pity Systems in the Gacha genre. With patience, players can reasonably obtain their desired characters or weapons in time. If players do wish to spend some real currency, ‘Blessing of the Welkin Moon’ provides the best possible value. Players receive the equivalent of 3,000 Primogems over the course of 30 days for $4.99. The only caveat being players will need to log in every day to collect them. Hopefully this has been helpful for the newer players and good luck on your Wishes!
