Just like Collei, Cyno is another Genshin Impact character that’s familiar to many. This character made his appearance in the Genshin Impact manga, where he plays a major role in helping Collei solves the damage the Fatui had done to her. After getting better, Collei eventually chooses to follow Cyno back to her hometown of Sumeru.

Cyno is also the character that’s featured in the Sumeru chapter of the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail video. Because of this, many suspects that the General Mahamatra will play a major role in the Archon Quest; just like Diluc, Ningguang, and Ayaka in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma’s arc, respectively.

7 Enhancing His Elemental Burst Damage

Determining which hit is considered what type of damage can be quite tricky in Genshin Impact. For example, Childe has his multipliers on his Elemental Skill, yet his hits are considered Normal Attacks.

This issue also exists on Cyno. Similar to Raiden Shogun, Cyno has multipliers on his Elemental Burst. But even so, his hits are considered Normal Attack DMG instead of Elemental Burst DMG. This means players who attempt to boost Cyno’s Elemental Burst DMG via support or equipment will find themselves in a terrible mistake.

6 Using The Wrong Artifact Set

Since Cyno’s Elemental Burst is considered Normal Attack DMG, artifact sets like 4pc Emblem of Severed Fate would be useless for him. On the other hand, sets that enhance Normal Attack DMG like Gladiator’s Finale will fit Cyno just fine.

Among the many options that Genshin Impact players can use on Cyno, 4pc Thundering Fury is the most favored set. Even though the 4pc DMG boost is quite underwhelming, the fact that players can spam Cyno’s Skill (every around one second) easily covers the set’s weakness. Nevertheless, the extra Skill cast provided by Thundering Fury still fails to place it on top when compared to other sets like Thundersoother, Gladiator’s Finale, and Gilded Dreams.

5 Disregarding Normal Attack Boosts

Because Cyno’s hits in his Burst state are considered Normal Attacks, there are plenty of other things players can do than boosting his damage via artifact set. For example, players are welcome to pair Cyno with characters that enhance Normal Attack DMG or grant a flat damage bonus to Normal Attack. Characters that bring this supportive value include units like Yun Jin, Candace, and Thoma.

Among the three, Yun Jin is likely the best option for Cyno in Genshin Impact. Not only will she grant Normal Attack DMG bonus and increase Cyno’s Normal Attack DPS by providing a flat damage bonus, but Yun Jin is also one-half of Geo Resonance. This allows players to bring Zhongli into the team to activate the Resonance.

4 Ignoring His Elemental Skill

Because of Cyno’s low Elemental Skill cooldown, players should not forget to keep using this feature when he’s in his ultimate form. Outside his Burst, Cyno needs around seven seconds to re-cast the ability, while during his ultimate, Cyno can spam it every three seconds.

The timing can be lowered significantly if players are using 4pc Thundering Fury, which is why people enjoy this artifact set so much in Genshin Impact. Cyno also has a higher Elemental Skill multiplier in his Burst state, which further emphasizes the importance of this move.

3 Playing Cyno Without A Healer Or Shielder

Similar to Raiden Shogun, Cyno also obtains a large resistance to interruption once he enters his Burst state. However, unlike the Electro Archon who only takes the field for seven seconds, Cyno will hang around for an eternity of 18s. Because of this, it’s super easy for players to forget about the hits Cyno gets, and eventually, this will lead to the unit’s demise.

Because of this, players should consider bringing a healer or a shielder in Cyno’s team composition in Genshin Impact. Preferably, those that don’t restrict Cyno in one area and can protect him for a long duration. Good examples for this role are Dori, Zhongli, Kuki Shinobu, Barbara, Beidou, and Qiqi.

2 Not Bringing A Battery

Similar to Xiao, Cyno is also underwhelming without his Elemental Burst, so he badly needs a Battery. For Cyno’s Battery in Genshin Impact, the best option is Dori. The merchant can perform as both a healer and Battery, which complements Cyno perfectly.

If players don’t want to bring a Battery, then Cyno should be supplied with enough Energy Recharge. This can be done by either having enough artifact sub-stat or using Polearms that provide the stat, like the Skyward Spine.

1 Underestimating Viridescent Venerer Support

Because of the new Dendro Elemental Reaction in Genshin Impact, it’s easy for players to get distracted by the new toy and forget about the older ones. However, ignoring Anemo's support and focusing on Dendro may not be the best idea, at least for now. With the limited number of Dendro characters in Genshin Impact, Travelers will discover that the classic Anemo supports like Sucrose, Kazuha, and Venti are not any less valuable compared to Dendro enablers like Collei and Dendro MC.

To recap, here’s what the Anemo units can offer Cyno:

  • Sucrose: Elemental Mastery buff, minor crowd control, Electro DMG buff (C6), and Electro RES reduction
  • Kaedehara Kazuha: Electro DMG buff and Electro RES reduction
  • Venti: Massive crowd control, battery, and Electro RES reduction

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
