WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
If it wasn't obvious from the title, this page contains spoilers for the ending(s) of Undertale.
Don't say we didn't warn you.

As you play through Undertale your actions will decide which endings you can achieve. Killing even one enemy (including Jerry) will mean that you can't get the Pacifist ending - which is thought to be the game's true ending and it is recommended you do this on your first playthrough.

Doing a mix of killing and sparing will get you one of the many variations of a neutral ending.

Killing every creature and also purposefully triggering every random encounter to kill those creatures as well will get you the genocide ending. Doing this will permanently taint your save file, even for future playthroughs.

If you want to achieve either the pacifist or genocide endings you'll want to decide that before you start the game. you can also use our Pacifist Walkthrough and Genocide Walkthrough to help you achieve these endings.

Neutral Ending

If you haven't been careful to kill or spare everyone this is the ending you'll come to. It's the most common ending achieved as without prior knowledge it's difficult to know that you can spare all the creatures.

The neutral ending will have several variations depending on how many people you killed or saved, the video above displays the happiest neutral ending.

In this ending, once you have made your way to New Home you will learn about the history of this place and how a human child was adopted by the king and queen. You'll also learn about their birth son and how both of them went to the surface to try to collect souls and destroy the barrier but failed.

Then you will face off against Asgore and he will be killed by either yourself or Flowey. This will likely mean you must battle Flowey as he has stolen the other human souls to gain power.

From here you can escape the Underground but the monsters will still remain trapped.

The last thing that will happen is Sans will give you a phone call and depending on who you have killed will update you on the Underground. There are many different variations on who may be in power but if you've killed Papyrus he will leave you a short message.

Flowey will appear and suggest that maybe you don't kill anyone next time, hinting at the true, pacifist ending.

Pacifist Ending

This ending is achieved by sparing every creature you meet, including Toriel and Flowey.

Initially, it will appear as one of the Neutral endings but Flowey will tell you to go see Alphys leading you to a whole new section just for this playthrough called True Laboratory.

It will also let you complete the Alphys date which is necessary for a true pacifist ending.

This area will teach you about the experiments Alphys did trying to give monsters 'Determination' and the ability to leave the Underground without killing humans - the results were less than successful.

Once this is all done you can return to battle King Asgore. Before the two of you can fight, Toriel will knock him out of the way. Undyne, Dr Alphys, Papyrus, and Sans will all also show up to try to stop the fight. It looks like a happy ending until once again, Flowey shows up and captures everyone.

Flowey will reveal himself to be Asriel, Toriel and Asgore's son and the proper final boss fight will begin.

Once you've saved your friends and Asriel the battle will end. Talk to Asriel and you can choose to forgive and console him as he lets all the other souls free and opens the barrier.

You will wake up surrounded by the friends you've made and they'll talk about going through the barrier. Talking to each of them will give you some fun dialogue.

From here you can head all the way back to where you first fell down in the ruins and talk to Asriel before he turns back into a flower.

Then go back to the barrier and leave. Everyone will come with you and talk about their new exciting lives on the surface. Toriel will ask if you want to stay with her and if you chose yes the final cut scene will see you sleeping in bed and she will bring you a piece of pie.

Genocide Ending

This ending is only achieved after killing every creature. Not only that but you will have to make sure the kill counter for each area has been completed as well. Sparing or missing one at any point will give you a variation of the neutral ending.

Once you reach New Home everything will be labelled in red writing as 'yours' rather than 'a thing'. This is the game acknowledging that you are the first human, the one who Toriel and Asgore originally adopted and the one who caused their son, Asriel's fate. Flowey will also talk to you about his past and how life must be kill or be killed.

When it comes time to meet Sans in the golden room, rather than judge you he will fight you. Sans is one of the hardest boss battles in the game and you'll just have to keep dodging his attacks until eventually he falls asleep and you can kill him.

When you meet Asgore you immediately kill him, as well as Flowey who you now terrify and will beg you not to.

You will then come face to face with Chara, the original human who is also you in a weird way. Chara will praise you for your determination and power and will say the two of you can go on to destroy more worlds and erase this one. Regardless the game will end with a slash animation which implies the game itself is perminantly damaged. This is somewhat true as your save files for future play throughs will always be tainted after this ending.

Starting the game up again after this at any point will result in a blank screen with wind sounds. After 10 minutes Chara will appear asking if you think you are above consequences.

If you want to play again you will have to agree to give her your soul and it will alter your future play thoughs.
