  • Domestic travel insurance is for Australian residents that provides cover for trips taken within Australia.

  • What constitutes a domestic trip?
  • 1Cover considers trips that are only 100km from your home a holiday. Not all insurers do so beware.

  • Do i need insurance when travelling domestically around australia?
  • There are risks wherever you travel - even on domestic trips. Incidents can easily happen in Byron or Bali, whether it's lost luggage or a delayed flight, or an unforeseen emergency at home means you can no longer travel. Domestic travel insurance is just as vital for holidays at home as well as trips overseas to help protect you from unexpected events outside of your control.

  • How much does Domestic travel insurance cost?
  • It largely depends on your age and how long you are travelling for. But for a 35 year old, without any pre-existing conditions, a week long policy costs around $50.

  • Am I Covered if i’m taking a domestic cruise?
  • Even if you are only cruising withing Australia waters, you need travel insurance, as Medicare will not cover you when you are out at sea. You must purchase our Cruise Pack add-on with your policy, selecting 'Australia Cruise' for your region.

  • What does domestic insurance cover with my rental vehicle?
  • Rental vehicle excess benefit does not take the place of Rental Vehicle insurance. However, if yourRental Vehicle is involved in an accident while you are driving, or is damaged or stolen while in your custody, you have provision to claim for a reimbursem*nt of up to $5,000 (unless you have opted to increase your excess) for any excess or deductible which you become legally liable to pay under your Rental Vehicle hiring agreement.

  • What if I take frequent domestic trips around Australia?
  • If you take frequent Domestic Trips, you might want to consider a Frequent Traveller Policy. This is a convenient way to save time and potentially money, if you travel regularly around Australia. Find out more about Annual or Frequent Traveller policies.

  • Does Domestic Cover include Medical Assistance?
  • While you are in Australia, we are unable to cover any domestic medical expenses. As a travel insurer, we can't take the place of health insurance. There is legislation in place to prevent this. If you are an Australian permanent resident or citizen, you will likely have access to Medicare or your private health insurance.

  • Are there any exclusions for Domestic Cover?
  • Depending on the type of policy you buy, most domestic travel insurance plans for Australia cover for things such as lost or damaged luggage and travel documents, rental vehicle insurance excess, additional expenses, amendment or cancellation costs, but they do not cover medical benefits because of the Australian health care system Medicare.
