Thankyou to the wonderful work of Dr. Ron Mariotti N.D.

Using a Castor Oil Pack can aid in elimination and detoxification. It supports blood flow, softens adhesions and scar tissue and reduces inflammation. Using these packs can therefore be helpful for conditions including abdominal scarring and surgery, pelvic congestion, PCOS, endometriosis, constipation, abdominal and pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, gall bladder stones and inflammation. Ensure your Castor Oil is cold pressed and organic. We have a clean, reasonably priced Castor Oil available at the clinic.

Cautions:

Castor oil packs should be used with caution or avoided during pregnancy, bleeding disorders and active ulcers. Individuals with chemical sensitivity disorders may have an increase in symptoms after using the castor oil pack, especially at the beginning of treatment, as it aids (and stimulates) the process of elimination and detoxification. It may be best to shorten the length of time of the castor oil pack treatment initially and should be discussed with your physician.

Basic Method

Supplies:

  • Castor Oil - Organic and Cold Pressed
  • Plastic wrap/bag
  • Old flannel/bath towel
  • Heat pack, hot water bottle or hot gel pack
  1. Gently massage castor oil into body area to be treated. If you are working on an external scar, find the 3 firmer or less mobile areas and work your fingertip/s over each one separately in a clockwise direction.
  2. If using essential oil mixture – apply 5-10 drops of essential oil mix over castor oil once it is on your skin. See below for guide on essential oil use.
  3. Cover the area with plastic wrap or a plastic bag (without any printing on it), followed by an old flannel or old bath towel.
  4. Apply heat pack, hot water bottle or gel heat pack to the area.
  5. Leave for 30-60 minutes and keep your body warm, using a blanket, more heat packs etc.
  6. Repeat for 10-14 days then continue every two days until improvement.

Advanced Method

Supplies:

The advance method takes a little more time however may prove more effective for resistant issues

  • Castor Oil - Organic and Cold Pressed
  • Flannel Cloth (cotton or wool, washed and dried, 50-100cm square)
  • Plastic wrap (clear kitchen plastic wrap or plastic bag without printing)
  • Glass dish (Pyrex or similar dish large enough to warm the flannel castor oil pack prior to use)
  • Old bath towel
  • Heat pack, hot water bottle or hot gel pack
  • Large zip-lock bag
  1. Fold the washed and dried flannel cloth so that it is 2-3 layers thick and fits over most of your abdomen.
  2. Soak the flannel cloth in castor oil. Strip or loosely wring out the excess oil. There will be excess oil for the first few applications, after that the castor oil pack should not drip excess oil.
  3. Heat the castor oil pack in a heat-safe glass dish and place in oven or in microwave to heat to a comfortable temperature. Make it hot enough to put straight onto the skin but avoid burning the skin.
  4. Place an old towel or plastic sheet under you to avoid oil stains from getting on your bedding, upholstery or carpeting.
  5. Lay down in a comfortable position. If performing scar massage, gently massage castor oil into body area to be treated. If you are working on an external scar, find the 3 firmer or less mobile areas and work your fingertip/s over each one separately in a clockwise direction. When you are finished the massage, proceed to next step. If not performing scar massage, continue directly to next step.
  6. Place the castor oil pack directly over the abdomen. Then place the castor oil pack directly on your abdomen.
  7. Cover the pack with a sheet of plastic, again to avoid staining. You can place this over the top or wrap the whole pack over your body to secure it.
  8. Wrap an old towel around your abdomen to hold the castor oil pack in place, and secure. Place a hot water bottle or gel pack over the towel. Wrap yourself in a warm blanket.
  9. Leave the castor oil pack on overnight or at least 2 hours.
  10. It is fine to fall asleep with the castor oil pack on, as long as you are not using an electrical heating source.
  11. In the morning, or when you are finished, take off the pack store the pack in a large zip-lock bag in the refrigerator. The pack can be used repeatedly, adding more castor oil as needed. The castor oil pack can be used for 3-4 more treatments.
  12. Washing off the oil is not necessary. If you have done the 2 hour version, you may need to wipe off any excess oil and then leave the rest to soak in.

Repeat for 10-14 days then continue every two days until improvement.
