If you're on board the essential oils train, chances are you spritz and slather onto your pulse points like a pro. And maybe you even spread the air-and-mood-boosting love to your coworkers or co-inhabitants at home via yourdiffuser.

But there's one place you don't really see people applying their essential oils—and it happens to be (arguably) the best, most effective one: your feet.

It's true—chances are you're not regularly taking off your shoes mid-workday to dab on some uplifting oil to your foot when you're stressed. But it's certainly doable in the a.m., post-shower, or as something to incorporate into your nighttime routine(just think of how nice it would be to have the scent of rose drifting from your feet as opposed toyour beat-up sneakers).

And there are legit reasons to applyit to your soles—besides the fact that it gives you (or your S.O.) an excuse to massage your feet.

Though thereare no scientific studies that specifically look at the benefits of applying essential oils to your feet, it's somethingyou'll find Ayurvedic practitioners recommending as well. "It's one of the fastest ways to absorb the oil," says Trudy Collings of Paavani Ayurveda. "If you're having trouble falling asleep, we always recommend applying calming essential oils like lavender or Jatamansi to the soles of the feet or frankincense to keep you healthy." Anyone else itchingto take their socks off?

If you're feeling sleepy, these are the energizing essential oils you should keep on hand. And these are the ones that can help you sleep.
