Genshin Impact is an action RPG with gacha elements, and one which lets you choose not only what sort of party you build, but also offers you a choice of player character. As the game begins, you'll have to make a choice that determines who you play as.
At the very beginning of Genshin Impact, you will be asked to choose which Twin to play as. Your options will be male or female, and you will get to name whichever one you pick. This name will be used in dialouge text, but the voice lines will just refer to you as 'you', 'us' (when Paimon is speaking), or 'traveler'. You might be wondering what the difference is, or what you missed out on by choosing one gender, but the answer is simple: nothing.

Aside from aesthetics, there is no difference between each twin. Even the language used for you is ungendered, so it literally just comes down to your personal preference. Attack style, weapon of choice (a sword, not love), elemental typing, stats, and progression is the same all throughout.
The twin is your main player character, but throughout the game, you'll be in control of a party of four. You'd also have the ability to switch between them on the fly during battle which can lead to some rapid-fire attack combinations and lets you chain different elemental effects. So regardless of which twin you pick, you'll need to be aware of how they play.
Both twins are melee sword fighters, and have the Anemo element at the start. They're not really that strong, so we don't recommend you to spend a lot of resources on them.
