What is Bloom in Halo: Reach? Everything You Need to Know (2024)

Halo: Reach is now available for PC and Xbox One players to enjoy whenever they want. The excitement for the debut of the fan-favorite title on modern platforms is due in part to the love the community has for the gameplay of the first-person shooter. One of the most significant aspects of this gameplay is the bloom mechanic when it comes to the title’s weapons. Fortunately for those who are not exactly sure what bloom is, we have everything you need to know about this controversial mechanic covered.

Bloom deals with the decrease in accuracy players see in their weapons when they fire them continuously over a short period. You will notice in this entry in the Master Chief Collection (MCC) that when you fire a weapon rapidly, your reticle will begin to get larger, and your weapon’s accuracy will decrease at the same time. This is the bloom mechanic in full effect. You will notice that your first shot with a semi-automatic gun is greatly more accurate than your fifth shot that has been fired in rapid succession.

Now, the mechanic is a somewhat controversial feature for competitive shooters, as many players feel it is too random based when it comes to how it affects accuracy. Unfortunately for these individuals, this mechanic is a staple of the game and will most likely never be taken out.
