The first two numbers are the year and the last one or two numbers are the month. You might find the factory code and the date code in two separate locations. A date code of 894 would show a bag made in April, 1989.
Early 1980s
The first date codes had no factory identification, just 3-4 numbers like the other 1980s code system. Code 8110 would show a bag made in October 1981.
