What Should the Sister of the Groom Wear?

Here’s a rule of thumb for some of the popular wedding dress codes. As the sister of the groom, you are ranked higher than a wedding guest. So take these dress code ideas and bring them up a level.

Tip: When considering what to wear, you may want to coordinate with the mother of the groom as well. Since you, mom, and the couple will be taking plenty of photos together.

Black Tie

For a black-tie wedding, you should wear a long (floor length) formal gown that covers the ankles. Bring it up a notch by having bedazzled shoes and a sparkling clutch.

co*cktail

A co*cktail wedding dress code means you could wear a knee-length dress or midi dress. The way you could stand out is by implementing minimalist bridal jewelry so that you could sparkle and shine.

Church Ceremony

For a church ceremony, the sister of the groom should dress conservatively. Avoid bare arms and cleavage. You should go for a calf-length dress and jazz it up with a sophisticated hairstyle like a bun or up-do.

Semi-Formal

Wear a formal top and dressy skirt or even a fancy pantsuit will do for this dress code. Jazz it up with the groom’s favorite color shirt or blouse.

Casual

A sundress and some wedges will do for this dress code. As the sister, you could make it bold by using similar wedding florals as your hair accessory.

The sister of the groom’s attire does not have many rules to it as long as you follow the dress code and don’t look like a bridesmaid, then you are golden. In this blog post, we will give you three examples of each dress code.

We will also include some accessories and extras for you if you want to level up the look. By the end of this post, we hope you have an idea of the style or maybe even the dress you’ll be wearing on your brother’s big day!
