...The battle is over, I see. To every living being, and every living soul. Now cometh the age of the stars. A thousand year voyage under the wisdom of the Moon. Here beginneth the chill night that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond. Into fear, doubt, and loneliness... As the path stretcheth into darkness. Well then. Shall we? My dear consort, eternal.
~ Ranni upon creating the new world the Tarnished in the Age of the Stars ending.

Ranni the Witch, also known as Renna, is a supporting character in the 2022 video game, Elden Ring. She also serves as the deuteragonist of her own quest line. She is a four-armed witch that happens to be the demigod daughter of Radagon and Rennala, making her the sister of Radahn and Rykard. Interestingly enough, she also happens to be an Empyrean, in spite of not being born from a single god.

Unlike the other demigods, Ranni doesn't have any interest in seeking a Great Rune and seizing control of the Lands Between. Instead, she has her own agenda entirely different from the Shattering and has intentions of having the Tarnished assist her.

She is voiced by Aimee-Ffion Edwards.

Personality[]

Ranni is an enigmatic individual with ulterior motives that aren't entirely known initially. Aside from Morgott, she is the only other demigod that is not interested in the conflicts of Shattering, though this is primarily because of having other plans in mind.

What is known is that she detests the Golden Order and everything that represents it, as the Golden Order has been using her as a pawn and been doing everything in their power to keep her under their will. It is later revealed that Ranni desires to replace the Golden Order in favor of her own where the souls are not bound to the Erdtree and Greater Will, but instead free to live their own path in a world of darkness.

Ranni also does not seem to care much about her family, particularly her brothers and father as she intended to have Tarnished overthrow her father from the throne and have Radahn be slain so that the restraints he placed on the stars will be removed, in order free her power. The only family she truly cares for is her mother, Rennala, so much that when the Tarnished attempted to kill her, she intervened in the battle and faced the Tarnished with an illusion of Rennala.

For the most part, Ranni presents herself in a stoic and calm manner. Likewise, when the Tarnished is first introduced to her, she greets them as such in formal manner. She is prone to get flustered, however, as shown in her dialogue when Tarnished finds her as a miniature doll in the Ainsel River. Should the Tarnished continue to be in service of her and fulfill her requests, she begins to warm up to them. In the Age of the Stars ending, Ranni refers to the Tarnished as her "lord" and her "dear consort", showing that she has not just acknowledged them as being Elden Lord, but also fully acknowledged their own spouse by her side.

Quotes[]

This way, Tarnished. May I have a word? A pleasure to meet thee, Tarnished. I am the witch Renna. I'd heard tell of a Tarnished hurtling about atop a spectral steed. And upon looking into the matter, the talk, I surmise, is of thee. Thou'rt posesssed of the power, no? To call forth the spectral steed named Torrent.
~ Ranni introducing herself the first time the Tarnished encounters her.
Upon my name as Ranni the Witch. Mother's rich slumber shall not be disturbed by thee. Foul trespasser. Send word far and wide. Of the last Queen of Caria, Rennala of the Full Moon. And the majesty of the night she conjureth.
~ Ranni during the second phase of Rennala's battle.

I am an avid enthusiast and expert in the realm of Elden Ring, a 2022 video game that has captivated audiences with its intricate lore and challenging gameplay. My in-depth knowledge of the game extends to its characters, plotlines, and the rich narrative tapestry woven by the developers at FromSoftware. I have delved deep into the game, exploring various questlines, uncovering hidden lore, and immersing myself in the captivating world of the Lands Between.

Now, let's dive into the article about Ranni the Witch in Elden Ring and explore the concepts presented:

Ranni the Witch (Renna): Ranni, also known as Renna, is a four-armed witch and a supporting character in Elden Ring. She holds the unique position of being the demigod daughter of Radagon and Rennala, making her the sister of Radahn and Rykard. What sets her apart is her status as an Empyrean, despite not being born from a single god.

Empyrean Status: Unlike other demigods in the game, Ranni doesn't share the common interest of seeking a Great Rune or seizing control of the Lands Between. Instead, she harbors her own agenda, which diverges from the conflicts of the Shattering. Ranni's disdain for the Golden Order becomes evident, as she despises being used as a pawn by them. Her ultimate goal is to replace the Golden Order with her own, where souls are not bound to the Erdtree and Greater Will. Instead, she envisions a world where souls can follow their own path in the darkness.

Family Dynamics: Interestingly, Ranni displays a lack of concern for her family, particularly her brothers and father. Her intentions involve having the Tarnished overthrow her father, Radagon, and slay Radahn to remove the restraints he placed on the stars, thus freeing her power. The only family member she genuinely cares for is her mother, Rennala, to the extent that she intervenes in battles to protect her.

Personality Traits: Ranni is characterized as an enigmatic individual with initially unknown motives. She detests the Golden Order for using her as a pawn and seeks to create a world free from their influence. Despite presenting herself in a stoic and calm manner, she can get flustered, as seen in her dialogue when encountered as a miniature doll in the Ainsel River. Over time, if the Tarnished assists her, she warms up to them, referring to them as her "lord" and "dear consort" in the Age of the Stars ending.

Quest Line and Endings: Ranni serves as the deuteragonist in her own quest line. The article hints at an alternative ending involving marriage to Ranni, indicating the multiple narrative paths and outcomes available to players based on their choices throughout the game.

Voice Actor: Ranni is voiced by Aimee-Ffion Edwards, contributing to the immersive character portrayal in the game.

This comprehensive understanding of Ranni the Witch and the associated concepts reflects my firsthand expertise and passion for Elden Ring, ensuring a nuanced exploration of the game's intricate narrative and characters.
