How do I identify a vintage poster? ›

Firstly, original vintage posters tend to be printed in specific sizes which are not generally available today (see 'sizes' below). Authentic posters do not normally have a glossy finish and were printed in ink on light-weight paper using a process called lithography.

Typically, investments in original vintage posters do not result in a short-term return; prices rather increase slowly over time, depending on the demand for a specific poster.

Early on posters were printed using a complicated process of stone or plate lithography but over time other printing techniques (photolithography, woodblocks, silkscreens, photo-offset) were used.

'Original Vintage Poster' means that the poster is from the original print run, and not a later reproduction. Posters were printed in the hundreds (sometimes in the thousands), and we rarely know how many still exist after the passing of time.
