Kathryn Fitz (2024)

Major-General Kathryn Fitz, better known as The Major, also known as Ellen Ragier, is a character on Manifest. She debuts in the twelfth episode of season one and is portrayed by guest star Elizabeth Marvel.

She was unintentionally killed by Saanvi Baahl in "Icing Conditions". In "Final Boarding", she is restored to life in the new timeline as a side effect of Flight 828 being returned to 2013 after the passengers beat the Death Date. Saanvi's murder of the Major nearly causes her not to survive the Death Date, but it is ultimately balanced out by Saanvi saving the life of Cal Stone.

After Flight 828[]

When Flight 828 returns after its five-and-a-half year disappearance, the Major takes an interest in the passengers. She goes as far as to abduct and experiment on 11 of them, using Fiona Clarke's psychological research as a way of experimentation. ("Off Radar")

Even after her experiments are compromised, she still keeps tabs on various 828 passengers. She continues her research and investigation into Flight 828, the blood markers, and the Callings. As a way of getting inside information, she poses as a psychiatrist named Ellen Raiger, and begins using her sessions with 828 passenger Saanvi Bahl to continue her own research. ("Estimated Time of Departure") She also takes great interest in Cal Stone, calling him the "Holy Grail" of her research.

When Saanvi learns that the Major was posing as a psychiatrist to gain information, Saanvi meets her in a park to interrogate her on the research. To gain leverage, Saanvi induces anaphylaxis and has a treatment for it. The Major tries to gain her leverage back, saying that Saanvi is not a killer and she won't let her die. They have a skirmish over the antidote. In the midst of the scuffle, the antidote is dropped, and the Major dies due to Saanvi not being able to inject her with the antidote in time. Right before her death, the Major reveals to Saanvi that the US army never found a cure and that they were intending on weaponizing the DNA mutation and infecting people with it.

To protect Saanvi, Vance and his team cover up the Major's death making it look like Fitz was killed by a foreign spy. However, in actuality, Vance's team rented a truck from private garbage disposal service to help retrieve the Major's body out of the park, before eventually disposing of her body in an unknown lake.

After Vance's survival is revealed, the government agents interrogating him reveal that the Major's project was shut down after her death.

Some time after this, the Major's daughter, Sarah Fitz, becomes concerned about her mother's absence and begins looking for her mother. Finally, she reaches out to Michaela Stone and the NYPD for help. Stone refuses to take on the case, but Jared Vasquez takes interest and begins looking into Fitz's death, before being told by Vance's team that the Major was killed by a foreign spy and that he should close the case.

Trivia[]

  • Arguably her malice and lack of empathy came back to bite Kathryn. She refused to make a deal with Saanvi, for the antidote, destroying the only cure to her poisoning in the struggle. Ironic, much like the Joker in Arkham City.
  • Kathryn is brilliant in that she took non-Americans who were on Flight 828 for experiments. There would be no family in America looking for them.
