In English, the words “present” and “gift” have the same meaning: a thing that one person gives to another out of kindness. However, the two words are used in different contexts. For example, there are phrases with the word “gift”: an anniversary gift, a Mother’s Day gift, a Valentine’s Day gift, etc. And there are phrases you must use the word “present” instead: a Birthday present, a Christmas present, a wedding present.

To nicely present a gift to a friend or coworker, you should learn a few English phrases.
You do not have to memorize a huge number of English greetings and poems. You only need to learn one or two of the sentences below, and that will be enough.

- It’s just something small, but I hope you like it.

Politely accepting a gift
Even if you do not like the gift, or also if it is a disappointment, you should not talk about it or show that you are upset. Simply thank the person.
