How To Become A Real Estate Agent - Mitch Durfee (3)

Have you ever felt the urge to join the other 2 million licensed real estate agents in the U.S.

Do you love the idea of helping people buy the perfect home or making tons of money selling houses?

It’s been said that real estate agents can make as much money as doctors and lawyers, without the years and years of schooling!

The Benefits of becoming a Realtor:

-You don’t need a college degree

    -You make your own hours

-You don’t have to be in an office all day

-You can wear what you want

-No one else controls your income

-You can meet people you’d never ordinarily meet

-You get to tour some beautiful homes

-You can represent yourself when you buy/sell your own properties

-You get great tax advantages and tax deductions

Getting your real estate license is a combination of:

How To Become A Real Estate Agent - Mitch Durfee (4)

    1. Investing time in pre-licensing education,
    2. Passing both the state and national real estate licensing exam,
    3. Finding a broker and resources to help you kick start your real estate career.

Note that each step to getting your license may vary slightly by state, so it’s important to check your state’s requirements.

    First Step:

To getting your real estate, You’ll usually need to enroll in a real estate education course. You can take it online, in person or a hybrid of both.

I recommend doing your pre-license training online. It’s much easier to fit into your schedule and you can skip forward and back to make sure you understand each piece before moving forward.

“More than 200,000 real estate professionals got their start with

    Real Estate Express.”

You can check to see if Real Estate Express offers your states pre license by clicking here

    Second Step:

Passing both the state and national real estate licensing exam.

Visit your state real estate commission’s website for instructions on how to register to take the real estate licensing exam.

These test are generally divided into two sections: one being on the federal real estate laws and general real estate ethics and principles, while the second portion of the exam being on state-specific laws.

Both typically consist of around 75 to 100 multiple-choice questions,

Make sure to bring a calculator there will be math questions (prorating taxes, and calculating commissions) for a specific property).

Most pre-licensing courses like at (Real Estate Express) provide students with sample tests, and many real estate commissions publish sample questions online.

Don’t worry if you don’t pass on your first attempt many people that have their real estate license today have failed the exam on their first attempt. So what are the odds you’ll pass? In some states like Florida, 50% fail the first time. The bright side is you usually only need to take the half of the exam you didn’t pass and you can take the exam as often as you want over a two-year period. But once two years elapse, applicants are required to retake the pre-licensing course then the exams again.

Some have even tried to pass the exam without any training to get a sneak peak at the answers so they know what to study. I recommend working your way through the pre license course, and doing the sample test and then just signing up to take your exam as quickly as possible.

    Third Step:

    Find a brokerage:

You’ll need to join a real estate brokerage as a new agent. In order to become a real estate agent and legally practice real estate, the state real estate boards require you work under a supervising broker. Brokers are licensed by the state to oversee real estate transactions and make sure all real estate salespeople are following the required legal and ethical standards.

My recommendation is to first find a brokerage that works in the area. I personally recommend EXP Realty for multi-reasons. eXp Realty is changing the way that agents, brokers and consumers work together. eXp Realty’s virtual office environment compared to the traditional real estate office allows agents to collaborate and learn together — no matter where they might be located.

If you have questions about which brokerage might be right for you after you complete your pre license course and your state and national exam send me a message and we can discuss your situation!
