How much wax do you need to make 1 candle? ›

To find how much wax you will need, multiply the number of candles you are making by the amount of wax it will hold, and then divide that by 20. For example, if you want to make 30 - 8 ounce candles the math would be as follows: 30 (containers) x 8 (oz per container) = 240 total ounces / 20 = 12 lbs wax needed.

To work out the amount of wax you need for your container, simply fill your container with water and pour into a measuring jug. Measure the amount of water the container holds in ml's. Minus 20% off this amount, this leaves you with roughly the amount of wax your container holds in grams.

What is the difference between wax wax and candle wax? ›

Wax melts absorb heat slower than traditional candles and therefore are able to release aromas without burning the oils. This gives the wax the ability to continue releasing the fragrance without the scent evaporating quickly. When you burn a candle, the opposite happens.

If you decide that you want a clean-burning candle that will give you the strongest scent throw you can get, you might choose paraffin. If you want a wax that is clean-burning, comes from a renewable source, has a great scent throw, and burns longer, soy might be the way to go.

Let the entire wax surface melt

You should always leave your candle burning for at least two hours. This is so that you allow enough wax to melt that it can produce a stronger scent. If you want your scented candle to fill a room quickly, then your best bet is a candle topper.

The 'fragrance load' or fragrance % is the manufacturers recommended maximum amount of fragrance that a particular wax can retain. For example, if you are making a 16 oz. candle with a wax that has a maximum 10% fragrance load, you could add up to 1.6 oz. (16 oz. * 10% = 1.6 oz.)

A good rule of thumb is one ounce of fragrance to every pound of wax but, many waxes canhold more or even less. Finally, take a metal spoon and stir your fragrance for about two to three minutes. You'll want to make sure you stir long enough to bind the fragrance to the wax.
