WHATIS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOSSAMER AND CLASSIC TEXTILES AND RIBBONS?

The major difference between the types of silks that we offer is the thickness and weight of the silk. The higher the mm of the silk, the more opaque the silk becomes. Our silks range from 3mm-12mm.

Silk Textiles

Classic Textilesare created with 10mm Silk Chiffon that is a sheer fabric with a soft matte-like texture, and an elegant drape.

Gossamer Textilesare created with a 3mm Silk Gauze that is extremely sheer and delicate. This fiber has an incredibly soft feel in your hand and an almost weightless floaty drape.

HOW MUCH RIBBON DO I NEED FOR MY BOUQUETS?

We suggest2.5 yards for every bridesmaid bouquet anda full 5 yard ribbon bundle, sometimes even 2 full bundles for a total of 10 yards, for the bridal bouquet.

WHAT WIDTH RIBBON IS BEST FOR BOUQUETS?

In our experience, the wider ribbon widths (2 inches and up) photograph best on bouquets. It really depends on how bold your bride is and how much she loves ribbon.

HOW MUCH RIBBON DO I NEED FOR MY BOUTONNIERES?

We suggest our .75 inch width Classic ribbons to wrap boutonnieres with. In our experience, you'll need 7 inches in length if you are tying a knot, and 14 inches in length if you are tying them off with a bow.

HOW MUCH RIBBON DO I NEED FOR MY INVITATIONS?

Ribbon invitation lengths vary significantly, as much of the length and style is determined by personal preference. We suggest using a string to style your invitation as you like and measuring it to find the total length you need. Feel free to contact us with dimensions and a description of the style you will be creating if you have any questions on how much you should order.

HOW LONG OF A TEXTILE WILL I NEED IF THE TABLE IS 8 FEET LONG?

It depends on how you want the textile to hang. If you want the textile to touch the floor, we typically suggest adding 7 feet to each runner to account for a 3.5 foot overhang on each side. In other words, for an 8 foot farm-style table you would need 15 feet (or 5 yards) of fabric.

WHAT WIDTH OF TEXTILE FABRIC IS BEST FOR TABLE RUNNERS?

It depends on the tabletop width but we typically suggest the 25 inch wide textiles for runners. Our 50 inch wide textiles are best for styling textiles or if you want to cover the entire tabletop and create an overlay.

DO YOU DO CUSTOM TEXTILE SIZES?

We are happy to take on custom textile orders! Keep in mind, we are limited in the lengths we can create due to the small-batch nature of our dyeing process. Feel free to email us and we can provide you with more information on the sizes we can accommodate and price estimates.

IF I HAVE A RIBBON OR TEXTILE EMERGENCY CAN YOU RUSH MY ORDER?

Yes, we can rush orders. Keep in mind we are a small design company and to rush your order means we have to rush ourselves. Our ribbons have a very limited inventory and our runners/textiles are not stocked, but made to order by hand. That being said, we will do our best to get you your order as quickly as possible. For more information on Rush Processing, visit our Shipping + Processing page.

THE RIBBON I ORDERED IS DARKER THAN IT LOOKS ONLINE, DID YOU SEND ME THE WRONG COLOR?

Photographing handmade materials for online sales is tricky. A film photographer,Sposto Photography, captured our ribbon inventory on film to highlighttheir quality, but the nature of viewing images online will always make them feel lighter. Color is also dependent on the amount of light provided. Whether your event is indoors or outdoors will have a major affect on the lightness or darkness of a color. You are welcome to purchase samples of all of our available colors (just check the size dropdown on each ribbon product page)ahead of your order and ask us as many questions as you like.

As an enthusiast with a deep understanding of textiles, ribbons, and their various applications, let me draw on my extensive knowledge to shed light on the concepts mentioned in the article.

The article discusses the differences between gossamer and classic textiles and ribbons, focusing on silk materials with varying thickness and weight. The measure of silk thickness is denoted in mm, ranging from 3mm to 12mm. Here's a breakdown of the key concepts:

  1. Silk Textiles:

    • Classic Textiles: Utilize 10mm Silk Chiffon, a sheer fabric with a soft matte-like texture and an elegant drape.
    • Gossamer Textiles: Created with a delicate 3mm Silk Gauze, known for its extreme sheerness and weightlessness.
  2. Silk Ribbons:

    • Classic Ribbons: Crafted from a 12mm Silk Crepe de Chine, offering an opaque, matte-like texture with a luxurious feel and graceful drape.
    • Gossamer Ribbons: Use a 3mm Silk Gauze, providing an extremely sheer and delicate ribbon with a soft feel and a floaty drape.
  3. Recommendations for Bouquets:

    • Suggests 2.5 yards for each bridesmaid bouquet and a 5-yard ribbon bundle (potentially two bundles for a total of 10 yards) for the bridal bouquet.
    • Wider ribbon widths (2 inches and up) are recommended for bouquets.
  4. Boutonnieres:

    • Recommends using .75-inch width Classic ribbons, suggesting 7 inches in length for a knot and 14 inches for tying off with a bow.
  5. Invitations:

    • Ribbon lengths for invitations vary, and it's recommended to use a string to determine the total length based on personal preference and style.
  6. Table Runners:

    • The length of textile for an 8-foot table depends on whether you want it to touch the floor. Suggests adding 7 feet to each runner for a 3.5-foot overhang on each side.
  7. Table Runner Width:

    • Recommends 25-inch wide textiles for runners, while 50-inch wide textiles are suitable for styling or covering the entire tabletop as an overlay.
  8. Custom Textile Orders:

    • The company accepts custom textile orders, but limitations exist due to the small-batch nature of the dyeing process.
  9. Rush Orders:

    • Rush orders are possible, but customers are advised that the company is small, and rushing the order means rushing the production process.
  10. Color Discrepancies:

    • Addresses potential discrepancies in color perception, explaining that photographing handmade materials online can be challenging. Recommends purchasing samples to assess colors accurately.

By understanding these concepts, individuals can make informed choices when selecting silk textiles and ribbons for various applications, from bouquets and boutonnieres to invitations and table runners.
