Did you know that the Earth has been recycling water for over 4 billion years? Every living thing on Earth needs water to survive and the water that we drink today is the same water that wooly mammoths, dinosaurs, and the first humans ever drank! Earth only has a certain amount of water and it travels around moving between lakes, rivers, oceans, the atmosphere and the land. This is called the water cycle and it is mother nature’s way of recycling water.
There are 4 main parts of the water cycle: Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, and Collection. As it goes through this continuous system, it can be a liquid (water), a gas (vapour), or a solid (ice). First, water evaporates, then forms and condenses clouds, and finally precipitates and falls back to Earth. It is then collected by oceans, and rivers, then the water cycle repeats itself over and over again!
