Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (2024)

By Soham Bhattacharjee

From the Monk's Flameblade to the Guardian's Swordspear, these are the best of the best rare weapons in the game.

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (1)

Elden Ring is packed with secrets, mysteries, and over 300 unique armaments to slay terrifying bosses. Most of these can be obtained as players progress by killing bosses and exploring the Lands in Between, but FromSoftware is notorious for making it tough to acquire particular weapons. They do this by hiding the weapons behind illusory walls and even decreasing weapon drop rates to as low as 0.5% per kill.

The title is gaining traction once again after the announcement of the DLC, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erd Tree. As such, new players and veterans alike are looking for reasons to jump right back in. Changing up primary weapons in builds is a great way to refresh the gameplay experience, especially with myriad areas to explore and bosses to slay, perhaps once again.

All Drop-rate percentages are calculated while having 100 points in the Discovery.

10 Rotten Crystal Spear And Rotten Crystal Staff (8%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (2)
  • Weapon Classes: Spear, Glintstone Staff
  • Required Stats: (STR - 10, DEX - 16, INT - 16), (STR - 8, INT - 48)
  • Weight: 5.5, 4.5

As two of the very few weapons that grant the Scarlet Rot status effect as well as magic damage, the Rotten Crystal Spear and Staff are prime choices for mages with points invested in Dexterity. While there are far better alternatives in the spear category than the Rotten Crystal Spear, the Rotten Crystal Staff is one of the highest-scaling Glintstone staves in the game and offers an additional 10% boost to Crystalian sorceries.

Sadly, players cannot take advantage of the Scarlet Rot status effect with the Rotten Crystal Staff unless they dole out physical damage with the staff. Both of these weapons can be dropped by Lesser Crystalian mobs located within Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.

9 Haligtree Crest Greatshield (4%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (3)
  • Weapon Classes: Greatshield
  • Required Stats: STR - 36
  • Weight: 18.5

Although the Haligtree Crest Greatshield has a 4% drop rate at 100 Discovery, which is not that rare compared to others on the list, it is one of the most difficult farms to access. Players have to reach a single enemy just near the Haligtree Roots Site of Grace to acquire this item.

Players who strengthen and infuse Haligtree Crest Greatshield will find the final boss, Radagon, a walk in the park, thanks to its high Holy Damage negation.

8 Monk's Flameblade (4%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (4)
  • Weapon Classes: Curved Greatsword
  • Required Stats: STR - 18, DEX - 18
  • Weight: 9

After patch 1.09 dropped, players rushed to try out their favorite Curved Greatswords as FromSoftware decided to buff their range, speed, and other factors. Hence, Monk's Flameblade is the perfect choice for those who want to add a bit of artistic flair to their Curved Greatswords.

It is dropped by a single Fire Monk in the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave Site Of Grace and can be infused with Ash of War, which adds more customizability depending on playstyles.

7 Envoy’s Greathorn (2%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (5)
  • Weapon Classes: Colossal Weapon
  • Required Stats: STR - 28, DEX -12, FAI - 24
  • Weight: 19.5

Dropped by the Oracle Envoy Giants, this colossal weapon has a unique Ash of War, the Great Oracular Bubble, which makes up for its poor attack stat. Another great but accessible alternative would be Envoy's Longhorn, which is relatively lighter and has a higher DPS output.

The weapon skill absolutely decimates tanky enemies with relatively smaller hitboxes. Cosplaying Envoys by wearing the Envoy Crown also boosts the base damage.

6 Ripple Crescent Halberd (2%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (6)
  • Weapon Classes: Halberd
  • Required Stats: STR - 12, DEX - 12, ARC - 20
  • Weight: 8.5

This weapon is a boon to players with points invested into Arcane as they can potentially apply any status effect to enemies with one hit. Being one of the few items with an "S" rated scaling in Arcane and a lack of default status effects, the Ripple Crescent Halberd can be buffed by using consumables.

In the community, this weapon is notorious for using the Saporific Grease to apply the Sleep status effect on enemies over and over again. However, it can also be used with Blood or Poison greases.

5 Guardian's Swordspear (2%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (7)
  • Weapon Classes: Halberd
  • Required Stats: STR - 17, DEX - 16
  • Weight: 9

Farming this extremely rare Halberd is definitely worth it as it is considered to be the best Halberd in Elden Ring if one has enough points invested into Dexterity. Not only is it substantially faster when compared to other weapons in its class, but it also outshines its peers when it comes to pure attack rating when paired with the Keen affinity. The six Erdtree Gaurdians near the Minor Erdtree Church in Altus Plateau drop this amazing Halberd.

Hybrid builds like Dexterity and Faith can also use spells like Bloodflame Blade or even Vyke's Dragonbolt, making it easier to apply status effects to enemies with weak resistances.

4 Magma Blade (1%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (8)
  • Weapon Classes: Curved Sword
  • Required Stats: STR - 9, DEX - 15, FAI - 16
  • Weight: 4

The glistering appearance of the Magma Blade made quite a name for itself in the Elden Ring community due to its undeniable resemblance to Kratos' Blades of Chaos from God of War. However, an exceptionally low drop rate chance hinders players from attaining two of these weapons for their Kratos cosplay.

Its unique Ash of War scatters loads of magma all-around players while executing up to three slashes. Patch 1.09 also introduced several buffs for this weapon, which include increased running attack speed and decreased recovery time.

3 Cleanrot Spear (1%) & Halo Scythe (2%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (9)
  • Weapon Classes: Spear, Reaper
  • Required Stats: (STR - 16, DEX - 16, FAI - 14), (STR -13, DEX - 16, FAI - 15)
  • Weight: 5.5, 8.5

The Cleanrot Spear and Halo Scythe remain two of the most popular Faith-scaling weapons in Elden Ring. However, farming these can be tough as they drop from Lesser Cleanrot Knights, who roams around the Swamp of Aeonia. The Halo Scythe is relatively more popular in the community thanks to its Ash of War, Miquella's Ring of Light, which improves upon the Sacred Ring of Light by considerably increasing its effective range.

This doesn't undermine the Cleanrot Spear though. It also has a unique Ash of War that summons spears from the ground up and deals massive holy damage to enemies who are caught in the area of effect.

2 Celebrant’s Cleaver, Celebrant’s Sickle, And Celebrant’s Rib-rake (0.5%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (10)
  • Weapon Classes: Axe, Dagger, Spear.
  • Required Stats: (STR - 12, DEX - 8), (STR - 6, DEX - 11), (STR - 8, DEX - 14)
  • Weight: 4.5, 1.5, 5

This horrifying trio of tools is made from Human bones and can only be found in Dominula, Windmill village, towards the north of Altus Plateau. One can farm these from the apparently harmless but sinister Celebrants who dance around the village in groups.

These weapons have extremely low drop rates, and it would be smarter to boost one's discovery by consuming a Silver Pickled Fowl Foot for getting a hold of them. The trio share unique abilities that grant 10 runes per successful hit and can be infused and buffed by magic or consumables.

1 Noble’s Estoc & Noble’s Slender Sword (0.5%)

Elden Ring: 12 Rarest Weapons In The Game, Ranked (11)
  • Weapon Classes: Thrusting Sword, Straight Sword
  • Required Stats: (STR - 9, DEX - 10), (STR - 8, DEX - 11)
  • Weight: 3.5, 3.5

FromSoftware has a reputation for being unpredictable and the very existence of Noble's Estoc and Noble's Slender Sword are proof. These weapons hide in plain sight and can be farmed from arguably the easiest mobs in the game, the Wandering Nobles. However, the exceedingly low chance of receiving these weapons does not excite the average Elden Ring player who looks around for powerful loot.

Weapon-collecting enthusiasts, on the other hand, need to get their hands on this pair of weapons to complete the challenge. They should travel to Mistwood Outskirts and head directly north to find three Wandering Nobles who have a very low chance of dropping these armaments.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
