Chase Bonuses vs. Competitors

Chase has some pretty good sign-up bonuses, but it’s worthwhile to see how it compares to other banks offering promotions.

Chase Bank vs. Wells Fargo

Similar to Chase, Wells Fargo has a $300 sign-up bonus when you open an Everyday Checking account, which is comparable to Chase’s Total Checking account. However, you need at least $1,000 in direct deposits to earn the Wells Fargo bonus, while you need only $500 to earn the Chase bonus.

Wells Fargo nudges out Chase if you’re looking for a savings account bonus. You can snag a $525 bonus when opening a new Wells Fargo Savings Account.

Chase Bank vs. Citibank

Citi has a $300 checking account bonus, similar to Chase. To earn it, you need at least $1,500 in direct deposits, which is more than Chase’s and Wells Fargo’s requirements.

Chase Bank vs. Bank of America

With Bank of America, you can earn a $200 bonus when opening a new Business Checking account. This bonus is half of Chase’s business checking bonus, which is currently $400. You also need to deposit at least $5,000 in new money with BofA, whereas you only need $2,000 in new money with Chase. So with Chase, you can earn double the reward with less than half the deposit.

Chase Bank vs. SoFi

SoFi has a $300 bank account bonus that’s more difficult to get than Chase’s — you need to open a SoFi Checking and Savings account and have at least $5,000 in direct deposits. However, SoFi’s underlying accounts have no monthly fees and earn a higher annual percentage yield (APY) than any Chase bank account, so you could earn more over the long run with SoFi.

Both banks have referral checking programs, but with SoFi’s you can earn $75 per sign-up, up to $10,000 per year. With Chase, you only get $50 per sign-up, up to $500 per year.

The Bottom Line: Chase Bank Promotions and Bonuses

Chase has an assortment of sign-up bonuses and promotions for new customers. But don’t get immediately lured in by the promise of fast cash. Pause, read the fine print and make sure the underlying account that’s tied to the bonus is one you’ll use.

A sign-up bonus may not be worth it if it’s hard to meet the requirements, avoid the monthly fee or if the interest rate is lower than what you’d earn with high-yield savings accounts from top online banks.

FAQ: Chase Bank Promotions

Typically, the Chase new account bonuses are for new customers only. However, current customers can use the refer-a-friend program to earn up to $500 per year when a friend or family member opens a new Chase checking account.

The easiest Chase bonus to earn is typically the $300 Chase Total Checking bonus, which requires receiving at least $500 in direct deposits within the first 90 days of enrollment.

Yes, you can earn bonuses for opening a new Chase checking account, as well as referring friends. But you must meet the requirements for each offer within the given timeframe to qualify.
