C1 Advanced results are reported on the Cambridge English Scale.

You will receive a separate score for each of the four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and use of English, giving you a clear understanding of your performance. These five scores are averaged to give you an overall result for the exam. You will also be given a grade and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level.

When will I get my C1 Advanced Statement of Results?

Results for computer-based exams are normally available 2-3 weeks after the exam session. For paper-based exams, results are normally available 4-6 weeks after the exam session. Results for digital exams are available 5-10 days after the exam session. Please note that computer-based (CB) exams are being replaced by Cambridge English Qualifications Digital in February 2024. The Confirmation of Entry document you receive from your centre will state the final date by which your results will be available.

C1 Advanced Scale Scores

Depending on which university, college or organisation you are applying to, you may be asked to achieve a specific score or grade, either overall or for a particular skill. For C1 Advanced, the following scores will be used to report results:

The exam is targeted at Level C1 of the CEFR. The examination also provides reliable assessment at the level above C1 (Level C2) and the level below (Level B2).

Scores between 142 and 159 are also reported for C1 Advanced. You will not receive a certificate, but your Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on your Statement of Results.

What is a Statement of Results?

Your Statement of Results contains the following information:

  • your score on the Cambridge English Scale for each of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and use of English
  • your grade (A, B, C, Level B2) for the overall exam
  • your CEFR level for the overall exam.

What is on my certificate?

Certificates are normally sent to exam centres within three months of the exam. Please contact your centre if you need to know the specific date. Your certificate can be awarded at different levels, depending on your achievement.

C1 Advanced – Level C2
Exceptional candidates sometimes show ability beyond C1 level. If you achieve a scale score of 200–210 (grade A) in your exam, you will receive the Certificate in Advanced English stating that you demonstrated ability at Level C2.

C1 Advanced – Level C1
If you achieve a scale score of 180–199 (grade B or C) in your exam, you will be awarded the Certificate in Advanced English at Level C1.

Level B2 certificate
If your performance is below Level C1, but falls within Level B2 (scale score 160–179), we will recognise your achievement with a Cambridge English certificate stating that you demonstrated ability at Level B2.

How long is my C1 Advanced certificate valid for?
Your Cambridge English certificate does not expire. Recognising organisations such as universities, colleges and employers can choose how long to accept results for, so make sure you always check their requirements.
