Bone carver (eye color)

Okay so this may be a dumb question but its bugging the crap out of me. Why is his eye color described as blue and violet. I dont consider the two innerchangable. Maas will say blue eyes then two sentences later decribe them as violet. Can anyone clear this up for me? Is there something im misunderstanding?

The short answer is both. I know, not helpful. But bear with me. The first thing to understand is that the Bone Carver does not have a definitive appearance, which basically means he appears differently to everyone who sees him. Therefore, he doesn't necessarily have a set eye color. His description is relative to the individual describing him. Feyre views him as dark-haired with violet-blue eyes and a pale, freckled complexion- later revealed to be the appearance of her possible future child with Rhysand. The first description of the child's eyes in "A Court of Mist and Fury" is "crushing blue". On the next page, they are described as violet. This may seem confusing, but violet and blue are far more interchangeable than you think. Maas isn't specific about the actual shade of blue in her original description, but because of the inclusion of violet on the next page, we can assume it is dark. So, a very dark, "crushing" shade of blue, akin to violet. Not the distinguishable light shade of grayish-blue Feyre has. Very, very dark blue is not quite different from deep, dark violet. Also, it is entirely possible that Maas wrote these conflicting descriptions of purpose, trying to demonstrate the fact that the Bone Carver's physical appearance was ever-changing, constantly evolving. It is entirely possible he changed his eye color multiple times during the course of Feyre's initial visit. It is within his power. But I find this unlikely. If you're still confused or if this comment has only confused you further, you can simply imagine the Carver with the eye shade you'd prefer, as most artists do. I've seen depictions of him with light blue-gray eyes, like Feyre, and dark violet eyes, like Rhysand. As their prospective child, it could reasonably be either. I, personally, have always imagined him with Rhysand's eyes- pure violet. But, remember, in all actuality, it is neither, for the Bone Carver's true form is far from humanoid and his true iris color is completely unknown.

I totally agree with @The Illyrian. I think the most important thing to remember is that he appears in a different body to everyone, so he has no true eye colour. I think it would have been nice if SJM had specified what he looked like in his fae body because that might have cleared up some of this, but who knows, maybe she'll have a dream and go "the carvers dazzling silver eyes pierced me" My best bet for his eye colour would be dark like his sister the weaver's were.

Is it possible that because feyre has blue eyes and Rhysand has violet eyes?

What do you think?
