I am in the process of updating my resume and converting it to a template I found on here. However, I know my resume is no where near as impressive (internship wise) as most other prospective interns/analysts. So I am trying to come up with ways I can make my resume (if not a lot, at least a little bit) more impressive.

Would it be helpful to take the Bloomberg Market Concepts course? It is an 8 hour self-paced online course and at the end I can put it on my resume as I receive a certificate for completing it. I can take it for $150 with my student email address. Maybe I am wrong, but it kind of seems like I would learn valuable information, and putting it on my resume would be an added bonus. Would you recommend this?

While this can be a good education for you personally, it will not add much value to your resume. If you can take it for free through your school on a terminal, it is likely worth your time if you are not a finance major (or have not taken any finance courses yet). If you are a finance major or if you need to pay for this course yourself, it will likely not do you much good when it comes to recruiting.

sondmon:

If you have little finance background you may learn something and can add something to your resume, but if you are majoring in finance or are pretty literate in finance it doesn't have so much to offer but its by no means bad.

You can read about the course in more detail on the Bloomberg website.

You can check out a video explaining the course below.

My education is in finance but from a non-target so I'm trying to think of practical ways to strengthen my resume. Appreciate the feedback!

Like others said it's only helpful if you don't have much finance coursework or maybe you're not a Finance major. I'm not currently Finance major either, so I took it and it's just something nice to fill up my resume for the time being. That being said, it's definitely not worth paying $150 for it.

Agree with the previous two comments, also a finance major and yes there is a fair amount of overlap between the course and my current curriculum. If you are looking to beef up your resume I would recommend a financial modeling course through BIWS or Udemy depending on your level of experience. If you want to become more proficient with Bloomberg the best way to learn in my opinion is sitting down for a few hours by yourself and exploring the terminal.

Yes, there are a lot of different courses but learning it yourself for one helps you retain it better in my opinion so the $150 is more a cost to list it on your resume in this scenario. I'd go with something off of Udemy if I were you. $15-$20 and can be done in a day. PM me if you have any questions.

I took it for free through my university's finance lab.

It only touches on the surface topics, it will be REALLY boring if you are a finance/econ major or have a lot of knowledge in it.

I am planning to take this BMC course over the next couple of weeks. It was recommended to complete the course before a workshop that my university is hosting on Bloomberg with Industry Professionals involved as mentors. I am an Economics major but feel like my program is geared more toward going into a graduate program rather than preparing me for a career in finance. Could you elaborate on why it would be boring for an Econ major because in my experience there is not a ton of overlap with Capital Market concepts and my classes?
