If you’ve been struggling for a while, you may want to pay particular attention to this. That’s because your mindset is critical to your success. Some experts argue it’s even more important than the actions you take. Either way, we know you can only reach success with a success mindset.

So what are those success killers?

Avoiding Success Killers - 5 Common Killers • Scott's Money Machines (1)
Avoiding the things that kill success is especially important when you are a beginner. That’s because the things that kill success may already be lurking all around you. Let’s identify what they are so you can steer clear.

In this post, I am pointing out common killers of success so that you can be aware of them and avoid them. Deliberately, I am not going to go deep into the subjects. That’s because your attention to what you don’t want has a way of bringing you more of what you don’t want. We want to pay “just enough” attention to identify them so you can be aware and can consciously avoid them.

Here are 5 Success Killers to Avoid

1. Fear

Fear is probably the number one success killer in all areas of our lives. There is the fear of failure, the fear of success, the fear of what others think, the fear of our own worthiness. I can go on, but like I said, I am not going to go deep.

It’s important to know that we all have fear. Successful people act in spite of fear, and that’s all the difference in the world.

Be aware of your thoughts, and when you identify fear, just be decisive and take action anyway.

2. Doubt

Doubt is when you question your ability or your worthiness. Doubt is a sharp killer of success.

When you find yourself hesitating, look within to see if it is doubt that is stopping you. Recognize that this is merely unjustified self-judgment because you are covering new ground. Let it go and move forward.

3. Ego

Ego is perhaps the hardest success killer to get past. That’s because so many people don’t recognize the ego as a killer. Your ego is a projected image of yourself – it’s not really you. If you let your ego get in the way, you will be sure to pinch off your potential. Whatever success you do achieve will not feel good because it is based on how you think others perceive you. That’s not true success.

Your ego is a nasty killer of success. Be aware, and look within for your inspiration and self-confidence.

4. Negativity

Negativity can come from all around us. Be aware!

Negativity comes from people… and oftentimes, it comes from people who love us the most. You know what I’m talking about. People who tell you it cannot be done and that you are crazy for wasting your time. People who try to talk “sense” into you.

It’s so hard to avoid people you love. It’s up to you to make decisions that will help you, not harm you. Some people may be easy to avoid, even if just for a period of time. Others may live with you and you must find other ways to keep the negativity from entering your mind. It’s not a good idea to resist or argue. Just quietly remind yourself of your goal and how nice it’s going to feel when you get there. You will find yourself smiling to yourself, as you let the negativity pass you by.

Negative and contaminated influence can also come from society, social groups, social media, TV, radio, government, and the news. The news is probably one of the biggest. Anything you hear or see that angers or frustrates you is blocking your flow of abundance and feeding your mind with toxicity.

Here’s how to tell if you are receiving a positive or negative influence. When you are receiving positive influence, you will feel good and experience one or more positive emotions. When you are receiving negative influence, you will be feeling one or more negative emotions. It’s really that simple, but it does take time to become aware, so pay attention.

5. Excuses

Excuses sometimes lurk in unrecognizable forms within you. For instance, if you are taught something along your journey of success, but believe your way is better, then that is a hidden form of an excuse. It’s really an unwillingness to learn or grow.

This is definitely a hidden killer of success. Be aware!

In conclusion

Successful people are self-made, they are not born that way. If you want to be a success, then pay attention to what’s going on around you. When you notice any one of the success killers, take immediate evasive action to stop it in its’ track. Your growing awareness will eventually help you steer clear.

Be sure to read my post on how to think like an entrepreneur. It is of great benefit to you to avoid success killers, while beginning to think like the entrepreneur you really are!

Just remember that the success killers I speak of are very real, they are nonetheless part of our mindset. We can, therefore, squash them as easily as we create them.

Here’s a recap of 5 common success killers…

  2. Doubt
  3. Ego
  4. Negativity
  5. Excuses
