Each year from early Spring through May, Biltmore celebrates "Biltmore Blooms" where the Biltmore Gardens come alive with color as the 10s of thousands of bulbs, plants, shrubs, and trees bloom for Spring. The spectacle is breathtaking, and something you will definitely want to see and experience.

Spring Tulips in the Walled Garden

During Biltmore Blooms, Biltmore Estate becomes an amazing array of scents and color. The scene all over the Biltmore Gardens is just amazing, with color literally everywhere in the historic Biltmore Gardens, designed by legendary landscape artist Frederick Law Olmsted.

During Biltmore Blooms, you can see:

  • The more than 100,000 bulbs planted by the Biltmore Gardens staff
  • Over 50,000 Tulips near the Gatehouse Entrance, and in the Walled Garden
  • Wysteria growing on the concrete arbors between Biltmore House and the Gardens
  • Azaleas, roses, and other flowershrubs and trees.
  • Nearly 15,000 Daffodils
  • and much much more.

Spring Bloom Schedule

Late March - Orchids begin Biltmore Blooms in the Conservatory. Many early bulbs begin to blossom in the Walled Garden, along with the Magnolias.

Early April -Tulips begin blooming in the Walled Garden and at the Estate Entry. Early flowering begins on estate shrubs and trees, including forsythia, spirea, magnolia, and flowering cherries.

Mid-April -Tulips are usually at theirpeak in the Walled Garden and at the Estate Entry. Other blooms at this time include various spring bulbs, dogwoods, and redbud trees.

Late April -Late tulips fill the Walled Garden, Estate Entry, and Winery beds, until the very last week in April when poppies, snapdragons, and pansies are planted by the garden staff. Other estate blooms at this time include hybrid azaleas and various flowering shrubs.

May -Poppies, snapdragons, and pansies in Walled Garden, Estate Entry, and Winery beds are in bloom. Other estate blooms during this time include native azaleas (thefirst week is usually the peak for azaleas), along with many other various flowering shrubs.
