In-game lore reveals that Radahn started to learn gravity-based magic when he reached a certain size, due to the fact that he couldn't physically ride the horse anymore. Through learning gravity magic, Radahn was able to keep Leonard as his mount, and the two now wander the Wailing Dunes together, happily ever after.
His only reason for wanting to learn gravitation magic was to keep his beloved horse. Leonard is incredibly small when compared to his rider, and when Radahn realized that he was growing too large to keep riding his horse, he went out of his way to find a solution to keep his friend.
Radahn conquered the stars, saving Sellia in the process, using his vast gravitational powers to 'shatter' the stars and arrest their cycles, earning him the moniker of "Starscourge." During this time, he engraved the gravity crest upon his blades.
One player discovered that Radahn's horse is named Leonard through game files, which is an endearing fact, but those that look at the item description for Radahn's Great Rune will learn even more.

Indeed, it shows that Radahn truly cares about Leonard, which is a nice character touch for someone hailed as one of Elden Ring's strongest warriors. It goes even a little deeper than that.
As a result of the Scarlet Rot's effects, Radahn's mind and wits was destroyed, driving him into becoming nothing more than a feral, mindless beast that feasts on the corpses of his fallen comrades and enemies in the desert of Caelid.
General Radahn is cursed ever to wander. Eaten from the inside, by Malenia's scarlet rot, his Wits are long gone. Now he gathers the corpses of former friends and foes alike, gorging on them, like a dog.
Most fans seem to agree that Scarlot Rot is the root cause of his missing feet, with one user giving examples of other important characters with missing limbs. Some users also believe that years of dragging his feet through sand while riding a laughingly small horse probably did this to him.

General Radahn is generally considered by most Elden Ring characters as the strongest demigod, except it seems even the strongest don't always win.
Radahn can actually repair or force the progression of quests for Blaidd or Alexander. Defeating him is part of Ranni's questline as well. His festival also blocks Sellen's questline. Killing him will not mess up any of these quests.
Radahn is also susceptible to Scarlet Rot, so if you're a faith caster with at least 12 points in the arcane stat, pick up the dragon incantation Rotten Breath at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in southern Caelid.
Radahn is a big outlier at 27 feet, but he wasn't always that big and his gigantism is accompanied by several other odd features like grey skin and thoroughly inhuman proportions, so he likely was around his mom and dad's height before his unknown transformation.
Malenia and her half-brother Radahn would eventually be the last two demigods left standing in the conflict. Their forces clashed in the Caelid Wilds, and the two fought a bitter duel for supremacy. In the midst of the combat with Radahn, the Scarlet Rot was unleashed by Malenia, resulting in her first bloom.
