How do you increase the longevity of cold process soap?
Make Sure to Fully Cure
Making cold process soap takes patience. It needs time to sit in the mold to harden, which usually takes at least 2-3 days. Once unmolded and cut, the bars need to cure for about 4-6 weeks. During this time, excess water in the soap evaporates, which creates a firmer and longer lasting bar.
Using too much clay in soap or on the skin too often can be drying. That being said, some clays are better than others for certain skin types.
Rose clay is a mild kaolin clay, which simply means it's a naturally occurring clay that has kaolinite as its principle constituent. Kaolinite is a clay mineral, also called a silicate mineral that inhabits certain rocks.
Tip #2 to make your cold-process soap white: Colourants
Titanium dioxide is a more intense whitener than zinc oxide. They may be used alone or in combination. You will need 2-4 g of titanium dioxide per kilogram of oil in the recipe or 2-8 g of zinc oxide per kilogram of oil.
