you can and should do post game before considering NG+. There's no Grade Shop in this Game for NG+. if you already finished all side quests and optional bosses, you won't be spending too much time on the game anymore (at least on hard difficulty) but the trip is worth it.
The "second half" is only called so for ease of reference, but it's really just the final stretch. It feels longer due to the gargantuan plot dump at the beginning of the stretch, but you only have four dungeons left (albeit all on the larger side) before the main story ends.
