A: The industry standard is considered 0.5 ounce of fragrance per pound of wax. For double-scenting, you would use 1 ounce of fragrance per pound of wax. For triple-scenting your candles you can use 1.5 ounces of fragrance per pound of wax. Make sure to confirm the wax you are using will hold that much fragrance.

Add too much fragrance: Using more fragrance oil does not always guarantee a stronger scent throw. If you are looking for a scented candle, soy wax will produce a stronger, more consistent smell that will last the full burn time of the candle. Beeswax on the other hand is better suited as an unscented candle that allows for the natural oil scent to be released into the air.
Therefore the correct formula to make scented candles is as follows: The number of candles you want to make (multiplied by) the volume of your container (minus) the total weight of additives (divided by) 20 (equals) how much wax per candle you need in pounds. For example, let's say you want a 10% fragrance load.

Paraffin-type waxes will maximise your scent throw. You can choose between the following: Paraffin container wax has great adherence to jars and containers, can hold a fragrance load of up to 9% and comes in slab form.
If you can no longer smell your candle, it does not mean the scent has disappeared; more than likely your brain had enough and switched off so you no longer notice the scent. After burning your candle for 2 hours, try stepping outside for about 15 minutes to clear your scent palate and come back in.

Calculating the percentage of fragrance to use
Most waxes will hold no more than 12% of fragrance oil however to assure the candle stability is not compromised we advise using 10% fragrance oil for optimal scent throw. This means if your candle is 100g in total- 90g should be wax and 10g would be your fragrance oil.
The wax should be poured into the container while it is 120 - 165 F to reduce cracking and speed up the cure time of the wax. If wax is to be left in the melter over night, the wax should be stored at a temperature of 130 - 145 F.
Adding salt serves the same purpose as putting the candle in the freezer—it slows down the rate at which the wax melts, giving you a longer, more economical burn. When you use salt in addition to the freezing method, you're doing all that can be done to squeeze extra time out of a candle.
Soy wax has a shelf life of about 2 years when stored properly.
The short answer is that certain types of candles, like paraffin candles, can last almost indefinitely when stored properly. Other types, like soy candles, are best used within a year or two.
Are 100% beeswax candles better?
Beeswax has the highest melting point of any wax meaning the candles burn for longer than paraffin. They are the tidier candle in that they don't release any soot and they tend to drip less. They also emit a much more ambient light, making for a cosy atmosphere.
No chemicals or additives are used in making beeswax, and it is left with a delicious honey scent. It is not a cheap byproduct of other processes in wax making, and is one of the more expensive waxes used in candle making, but it is well worth it.
Candle Life: Because beeswax is a much denser material than soy wax, beeswax candles should burn for a longer amount of time than soy candles. Mixing soy wax with paraffin to make the material denser doesn't help, since paraffin burns quickly, too.

How do you calculate wax for soy candles?
Fill it up with water to your desired wax level (normally 1-2cm gap at the top). Because wax is slightly less dense than water you will need to deduct 20% of the weight to get a reasonable estimate of the wax weight. e.g. water weight is 100 grams, deduct 20%. 100 x 0.8 = 80 grams of wax per candle.

The answer is yes, essential oils can be used in candle making, but there are a few things you should know first. Essential oils are notorious for not playing nicely with candle wax. Unlike fragrance oils, essential oils oftentimes have very low flash points which cause them to evaporate when added to hot candle wax.
If the wax is too hot, it will be too thin and could even burn you. The correct wax consistency is like liquid honey.
