Can you stamp clay?
Sometimes, stamps can stick to your clay. This can feel frustrating, but you can usually fix it fairly quickly. To help your rubber stamp release from your clay evenly and predictably, dust the clay with a bit of cornstarch. Don't use too much — just give the top of the clay sheet a slight dusting.

It's best to use archival or pigment-based markers to write on polymer clay. Alcohol ink markers such as Copic also work well, but will fade in the light with time. Most varnishes and sealers will cause these inks to run and smear. PITT markers give a good result, but they tend to dry out quickly.

Acrylic inks can work nicely on polymer clay. I found that Liquitex Acrylic Ink had good coverage and didn't scratch off easily.
The tried-and-true for all clay types are alcohol inks. Chalk inks are great, but you can also use pigment and dye-based inks with polymer clay. Not all inks will "dry" on all clay types. Some must be heat set after application, so you need to bake your item for the ink to dry completely.

In a bowl, mix a ratio of 80% PVA glue to 20% water to create a creamy consistency, and then coat your fully dried clay piece, and allow the sealer mixture to dry. Once you have applied your PVA glue mixture or acrylic medium, you can then apply 3 coats of acrylic paint to seal your work.
Can you mix alcohol ink and clay?
Because alcohol inks are brightly colored dyes, they can be used to make brightly colored polymer clay that still has translucent qualities. Just mix a drop or two of alcohol ink with your polymer clay to create a new color.
As long as your markers are water-based and have a "brush" tip, you'll be fine! It's a lot of fun. You color the different areas, then "huff" (like you're fogging up a mirror) on the stamp to remoisten the ink and make your impression. Or you can spritz the stamp with a very fine mist of water.

You can experiment with various paints and color ideas, but acrylic paints remain the best option for painting clay. A sealant is necessary to make your clay piece waterproof. Acrylic paint is only water-resistant and will not provide enough protection. Using white clay is best when painting clay.
Does ink work on acrylic?
Ink works well with acrylics, especially if you choose an acrylic based ink. The acrylic paint is thicker in consistency but both ink and paint can be diluted with water and mixed or used in a layering effect.
Paint pens work well on baked polymer clay too. Paint pens are generally not water based and so I apply them after baking the clay and give the paint plenty of time to dry. Paint pens come in lots of opaque colors like Black, and White, and also in many metallics.
It is available in glossy, satin, and matte versions. It is white and dries clear. But Mod Podge does not make a good polymer clay glaze or varnish.

There are some that consistently rank on top by artists who use air dry clays as the primary method of their art (such as sculptors and professional doll makers).
How Long Does Air-Dry Clay Take to Dry? For smaller projects, the standard drying time is 24 hours. For bigger projects, it could take up to 72 hours.
Place each portion of clay in a clean bowl and cover with a layer of plastic wrap so the clay doesn't dry out while you're working. Add a few drops of liquid or gel food coloring and use a spoon or spatula to begin to mix the food coloring into the clay.

Ranger Alcohol Ink
Although slightly thinner and more delicate than Rupert, Gibbon & Spider's product, they dilute nicely with extenders and flow very well whether you're working with resin, polymer clay, Yupo paper, or even metal.

Wedging your clay is an important step in preventing it from cracking while drying. This helps to compress and align the clay particles, which helps prevent cracking. It's important to wedge your clay correctly so that it has an even consistency throughout. You don't want hard lumps that are drier in your soft clay.
Most air dry clays are sticky, and you don't want that on your work surface. We recommend protecting the work area with items such as wax paper, silicone baking mats, or vinyl placemats.
Wax is the best polymer clay sealer to use if you want to perfectly maintain the texture of your work. If you've sanded and buffed your bead, the wax will give a wonderfully warm sheen. If you don't sand and buff, it will give a more matte finish.
Apply your stickers to the surface of your bisque piece wherever you'd like the surface to retain the color of the clay. The sticker will act to resist the underglaze you apply over it.

Mix in some PVA glue
PVA glue (or white Elmer's glue) holds those tiny paper fibers firmly together when it dries. You can incorporate some PVA glue directly into the small chunk of clay and knead it. Or mix the glue with water and use this mixture instead of clear water while sculpting.
You can use embossing ink (also known as watermark or resist ink), or pigment ink. Most dye ink pads won't work because they dry too quickly and won't retain enough powder. Embossing powder: After stamping with the embossing ink, pour embossing powder over the impression.
Can pigment ink be used for embossing?
Pigment Ink Pads have a rich ink that provides opaque coverage when applied to your surface. These ink pads are water-based, permanent, and waterproof. The ink stays wet longer, so it is perfect for heat embossing.
At the dry stage clay can easily break, so be careful and support it on a tile. Once your drawing is on the clay you can start engraving it with your tool.
Glazes have different effects on clay surfaces. In ceramics, we refer to them as gloss or matte glazes. Gloss glazes create a shiny, reflective surface. Matte glazes make a dull surface and satin matte glazes create a semi-shiny surface that is smooth to the touch.
