A quick search of Apple’s App Store or Google Play will show there are numerous options available.

However, they’re not without their shortcomings. Some require payment, others are buggy and full of ads.

But what iPhone and Android users may not know is that they have free plant identifying capability in-built on their phones.

View the photo in the library, swipe up on it, and what should appear is an option saying, “look up - plant”.

Tap the button and it shows results from Siri Knowledge, which collates information mainly from web searches.

Android users can identify a plant via a similar method.

They can snap a picture, view it and tap the “Lens” feature.

This will trigger Google to show what the plant is.

And what’s more, the function can work for buildings, pets, food and other things.
