It’s kind of trail by error, but start by asking each team member what they enjoy best in our industry. People are willing to do better work if it’s something they enjoy.If it doesn’t work out for whatever reason, instead of immediately demoting someone hurting morale, add a person who has shown good work at that task and/or add a 2nd team member that also is passionate regarding that certain task.     One thing I discovered which helped a lot, is making sure all sales personnel benefits financially from a good/fair Commission Plan and teach sales people how to find customer's ''real'' objections first and then solve the problem.

    So many answers to this question are focused on strategy and tactics. Culture trumps tactics and strategy every time. If you have to encourage collaboration, then you've already lost the game.
