Welcome to another week of the Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays roundup. I started this series after months of debate because I wasn’t certain I wanted to up the ante and commit to publishing three posts a week. However, now that I’ve started sharing these posts, I’m so glad I started.
There are so many fabulous women writing about personal finance online, and yet there is still a perception that women aren’t good with money, don’t care about money, or don’t understand it on a granular level beyond perhaps knowing how to coupon and score a good shopping deal. These roundups are my way of doing a small part to change that perception. There are no shortage of women online doing their part to make it clear that they DO understand money, and these posts are meant to amplify that fact.
The hardest part of this post every week always is narrowing it down to my favorites, because there is just so much good content out there. If you’re ever interested in what else I’m reading, I share quite a few other posts on Twitter (and that’s also where I read most of the content to begin with these days).
OurWomen’s Personal Finance Facebook groupalso has a sharing thread on Fridays, and that’s the place to read all the blog posts written by members over the previous week. If you don’t have the time or inclination to go searching down myriad posts, though, I will be continuing this series every week to showcase some of the best of the new content I read. Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays – Week 30
1. What I Wish Someone Had Told Me About Minimalism Before I Got Started Tiny Ambitions
I’ve been selecting these posts about a week ahead these days, and it’s apparently going to show this week as this is my second shout out to Britt over at Tiny Ambience this week after my link to a different post of hers on Monday. Today’s is a very different kind of post than that one though, with a focus on her minimalist journey.
With all of her posts, she does such a good job on reflecting on her life, and this one is no exception. While she’s talking specifically about minimalism in this post, a lot of what she writes could easily be used to discuss early retirement as well. Go read it, and let me know if you agree 🙂
2. 8 Lessons I’ve Learned From Living With Less Stuff Making Sense Of Cents
Another post on minimalism, this one from Michelle, who, for those of you who don’t know, has lived in an RV and now on a boat for the past five years or so. While I may be constantly attempting to declutter our home, even our thousand square feet has a ton more space than she’s lived with (taking away the square footage that is filled with our roommates stuff), which means I simply don’t have to be as ruthless with minimizing because I do have closets to shove things into.
Living a nomadic lifestyle may not work for us at this point in our lives, but the kind of minimalism that’s required when living in such a small space is really inspiring to me, especially as I cleared off our kitchen table yet again on Saturday in preparation for having people over for a house party.
Of all of these things she talks about in this post, number two is one I still very much struggle with. Maybe sharing this post – and reading it for a second time – will help push me through the block on this one.
3. Transparency Our Next Life
It should come as no surprise to anyone who’s read my blog for any length of time that this one resonates with me. I’m constantly making sure to share my story in ways that makes it clear about the privilege that’s set me up to succeed in the ways I have, but there is something to be said about having it laid out so clearly in one spot. That – of course – doesn’t mean that there isn’t a ton of hard work involved in most of our stories, but framing it in reality is so important for the people who take inspiration from them.
I might be stretching the “blog post” category here as this is more of a site page than a standalone post, but it’s one you will see here on my blog at some point in the future (when I find the time to squeeze in an extra bit of writing on top of my 3x a week schedule). While I don’t expect to ever see this sort of thing on every blog, it certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing if it was.
I hope you enjoy the posts this week as much as I did. I read a ton of content and it was hard to narrow down my favorites. I’m looking forward to sharing some new ones with you again next week!
