What To Do Before and After a Bikini Wax (1)

Posted on by Natalie Parkin

Bikini waxes have been around for a long time, and they’re not going out of style any time soon! With the swimsuit months upon us, you might be thinking about getting a bikini wax and what you should be doing to make your appointment as enjoyable as possible. We’ve got the info you need to know about bikini before and after care!

Pre-care What To Do Before and After a Bikini Wax (2)

It is important to prepare your sensitive skin for the wax. Follow these pre-care instructions and you should have good results!

  • Do not shave or exfoliate the area the day of your wax, but trim all hair to approximately ¼ inch in length prior to appointment for best results.
  • Avoid products (lotions/body washes) with artificial fragrances, harsh preservatives, and dyes.
  • Get a signed consent from your medical professional prior to your appointment if there is any question about interactions with medications or sensitive health conditions.
  • Contraindications: Accutane, Retin-a, and etc. If you have a history of immune dysfunction, resistant bacterial infections, or extreme ingrown hair, we encourage you to get advice from your medical professional prior to your appointment.
  • Shower before your waxing appointment.

If you are unable to adhere to the pre-care instructions laid out above, we highly suggest that you reschedule your appointment until you are able to follow them all. Your skin’s well-being should be your top priority. At Skinworks School of Advanced Skincare, we provide all of our waxing clients with these extensive instructions. Your health is important to us!

Aftercare

After you have spent time and money on a wax, you’ll want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. Just follow these instructions:

  • Avoid sunlight. Exposure to the sun without sunscreen will result in undesirable pigmentation like freckles and patches.
  • Be gentle with your freshly waxed skin. Do not use exfoliating products or other products containing harsh ingredients for 5-7 days. Focus on moisture and barrier protection. Use items like barrier repair, vaseline, or Desitin ointment.
  • Do not re-wax the treated area for 5-7 days or 14 days for sensitive skin.
  • Don’t use products with artificial fragrance and dyes.
  • Avoid sexual contact for 48 hours after waxing.
  • Gently exfoliate after the waiting period with a white washcloth, loofah, or aha cleansers to prevent ingrown hairs between waxes.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything whatsoever please feel free to call us. Again, we want you to feel your best after any service we provide!

Tips for First Time Bikini Waxes What To Do Before and After a Bikini Wax (3)

Never had a bikini wax before? That’s OK! There’s a first experience for everyone. Here are a few things you can expect and a few things you can do to help yourself get more comfortable:

  • You might be self-conscious. That’s OK! Your waxer should tell you exactly how the wax will work, and what they will be doing. However, you should not feel uncomfortable. If you do, let your waxer know that you want to reschedule for a later date.
  • Dress comfy. Wear your favorite sweats or other loose pants. Mild irritation after a wax is normal, so you’ll won’t want to pull on skin-tight jeans afterwards.
  • You will be fine! There is pain, yes, but it is not unbearable. If you decide that you don’t want to receive another wax, no one will judge you!
  • You can call your waxer if something doesn’t feel right. It’s what they do. They should be more than happy to answer any questions you might have!
