What Are Wood Flowers?

The wood flowers I use to make wedding decor and bouquets are made from the root of a plant called aeschynomene aspera. But I don’t know of anyone that walks around calling it that. Instead, we call it sola. These flowers have a cork or foam feel to them, they are completely natural and weigh next to nothing. You might notice knots or veins in the flower petals — that’s actually from the root of the plant itself. And just like real flowers, the knots and veins add a level of authenticity to your bouquet and decor.

How Are They Made?

I don’t personally make the flowers, but I do customize each individual one to fit your wedding day vision. In their natural state, they are a white or cream color, and they can stay that way if you prefer. I can also dye them any color or combination of colors that you would like. From there, I arrange them to fit your wedding day preferences.

I always celebrate the identities of my customers! I am as inclusive as possible, I and love to help my customers feel confident in kicking traditions to the curb.

My business values were built from my personal beliefs of inclusivity and social awareness.

I understand that not everyone pays that much attention to where they spend their money. But, since I do, I feel a responsibility to put my business’ beliefs and views out there for my customers to know when deciding to work with me.

The flowers

  • What flowers do you have?

I don’t have every available sola flower in stock, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get them for your order!

To see which flowers I typically keep in stock, please check out my flower options.

  • Can you send me samples?

Yes! I offer sample boxes flowers. Click here to order one!

  • How long do wood flowers last?

Forever! Or, at long as you take care of them. Keeping them out of direct sunlight and in a dry room is best. Damp basem*nts or storage units are not great for wood flowers. They are, after all, an organic material, so mold can grow if they get wet at all.

  • What is a sola wood bouquet?

Exactly what it sounds like! A bouquet of flowers made from sola wood. The greenery and fillers are typically preserved or faux (entirely fake). The end result can look as realistic or stylized as you want!

  • How many sola wood flowers do I need for a wedding?

There is no set number, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Truly. My bouquets usually have anywhere from 10 to 50 flowers. Boutonnieres and corsages typically have 1 to 4 flowers.

  • Do wood flowers look real?

They do! Or, should I said, they can. If you want a realistic-looking flower, it’s completely possible. But we can also go a more stylized route, creating flowers that are not anything like what you’d find in nature. I love either approach, so it’s up to you and what you’re envisioning for your event.

  • Where do sola wood flowers come from?

The plant the sola flowers are made from is native to southeastern Asian countries like Cambodia, India, Thailand, and Vietnam.

  • Can sola wood flowers be outside?

They can! I recommend not leaving them in direct sunlight for any longer than necessary, and to bring them inside if it starts raining. Extended direct sunlight can cause the colors to lighten. If they get wet, mold can grow & then you’d need to dispose of the flowers.

Customization

  • Can I get flowers in my specific wedding colors?

The flowers come to me in a natural, cream color. I can either leave them that color, or I can dye the flowers almost any color. A color swatch is all I need to get the flowers to be a near-perfect color match!

Please check out my previous color palettes for inspiration and to see what is possible.

  • Can you add sentimental items into my order?

Heck yeah! We can find a way to incorporate just about anything, whether it’s part of your a veil, hat, jewelry, clothing, or some other item.

  • What are my options for handles?

These can all be used for bouquets. Many can also be used for boutonniere stems:

    Twine • Rope • Ribbon • Burlap • Lace • Fabric

Working with me

  • What are your prices?

Everything I make is 100% custom, which means pricing varies wildly from order to order. You can expect similar pricing to real flowers, but keep in mind that wood flowers never die & you won’t have to pay anything additional to preserve your flowers!

The average spend for my couples is $2,000 – $7,000.

  • Do you offer wedding consultations?

Yes! I offer free, 30 minute consultations via Google Meet.

Fill out my contact form and I be in touch to schedule a consultation!

Once a consult is scheduled, be sure to add it to your calendar. If you miss our consult without canceling, rescheduling another will carry a $50 fee. If you end up booking with me, that fee can be applied to your final order.

  • Are wood flowers cheaper than real flowers?

Yes and no. Real flowers are becoming more and more expensive, so it’s possible wood flowers would be cheaper. In general, though, I think they’re typically about the same, upfront. Where you really save is not having to do anything to them after the wedding. No need to preserve them or turn them into something else (unless you want to!), so there is no additional spending.

  • How far in advance do I need to book you for my wedding?

I recommend booking me at least 3 months before your wedding date. If you have a very specific vision, I would recommend 6+ months, so that we can be sure there is enough time to acquire the necessary items.

  • Help! My wedding is next month and I need your flowers!

With such short timelines, I may not be able to accommodate a full wedding order, but I can typically get a standard bouquet and boutonniere done. This includes using the flowers I have in stock already, so the choices may be limited and will vary from month to month.

Orders placed 1 month or less before the wedding date will include a 30% rush fee.

  • I wish I had known about this when I got married! Can you recreate bouquets?

Yes and no. I can try to recreate bouquets to the best of my ability with available flowers and a good amount of photographs. The more photos (and angles!) the better.

  • I’ll work with damn near any vendor and/or venue, but the ideal situation is that our values around inclusivity and social awareness align.
