We are now in Week 7 of the flowering stage. Here are the new developments we will dive into:
- Buds are getting frostier
- Much more color expression
- Time to make some environmental adjustments to the room
In this episode of A Week-by-Week Guide to Flowering Cannabis Indoors, we are on Day 45 of the flowering period. Both plants, our Apple Tartz #7 pheno, and our Platinum Silk, are coming along quite nicely.
Changes from Week 6 to Week 7
The biggest changes that you will witness in the seventh week of flowering is the amount of trichome production on the buds. Your buds in Week 7 will be noticeably frostier, as the plants begin to finish out. These plants are beginning to look smokable! Seriously, at this point, you will want to rip off a nug and go smoke! That is how appealing your plants begin to look as you get into Week 7.
You will also notice the changes in color and appearance. For example, our Apple Tartz #7 pheno does not begin to really express its dark coloring until this week. As you can see in the video, she is looking wicked, with dark purple hues starting to fill in on the buds. By the end of the flower cycle, her leaves will be jet black. But they’re not quite that dark yet. Which tells us we still have a couple weeks to go.
The Platinum Silk continues to get chunkier and chunkier. This massive yielding plant just continues to get bigger, and denser in its seventh week of flowering.
Optimizing your Grow Room conditions in Week 7
The seventh week of flowering is a good time to start making some adjustments to the environmental conditions. These slight adjustments can help the plant peak properly, and give you the best success you can achieve with your genetics.
Drop Temperature to Encourage Color Expression
dropping your temps, and your humidity. Which can be sort of tough to do. That is because your dehumidifiers typically lose “pulling power” – the ability to remove water from the air – in cooler temperatures. But as you lower the temperature, you also want to lower the humidity. This is for both plant health and preventative maintenance.
Drop the Humidity to Coincide with Lower temps, and also to prevent mold growth
When the temperatures are higher, you can get away with slightly higher humidity. The reason is that the Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) in the room allows for higher humidity when temps are above 75 degrees. However, if you are seeking those dark colors, you will find great success by dropping temperatures down to around 67 or 68 degrees fahrenheit. But these lower temperatures also require lower humidity.
So remember to also drop the humidity in the room, because cold and wet conditions can encourage mold growth. The optimal humidity at this point should be well below 60% Relative Humidity, and the low 50’s are great.
