Uber Partners with FTD for Flowers on Demand - Food On Demand (2024)
With all the buzz around meals, booze and groceries, one might forget flowers were one of the original on-demand products. With a new partnership between Uber and FTD, customers in many of the largest U.S. cities will now be able to order delivered floral arrangements through the Uber and Uber Eats apps.
Starting this week, customers in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami and others will be able to order a selection of floral arrangements through FTD’s ProFlowers brand and will utilize the company’s national network of local florists, directly from Uber’s apps. The offering will continue to roll out to additional cities throughout the year and will be available nationwide by early 2022.

Uber Pass and Eats Pass holders will also enjoy 5 percent off and unlimited $0 Delivery Fee on eligible orders of $15+. And to celebrate the launch, starting July 30th, ProFlowers and Uber Eats are offering customers $10 off a purchase of $50 or more on the limited edition “Uber Sunshine” bouquet, available exclusively through ProFlowers on Uber Eats.
“When it comes to delivery, it’s all about meeting our customer’s needs, whether for everyday or special occasions, so flowers are a natural progression for Uber.” said Raj Beri, Uber’s global head of grocery and new verticals. “FTD has been a leader in the floral industry for more than a century. By pairing their expertise with our best-in-class logistics technology, we’re able to support FTD’s vast network of local florists and make Uber the leader in bringing on-demand flower delivery to customers nationwide.”
“Becoming Uber Eats’ first national floral partner is a moment that we’re equally excited and proud of,” said FTD CEO Charlie Cole. “Innovation and modernization is a key part of our business, and this partnership is an important step in how we continue to evolve both FTD and ProFlowers. Ultimately, this partnership is a win for our member florists by allowing them to offer an additional delivery option to help existing and new customers give and receive flowers with ease.”
Founded in 1910, FTD has been a leader in the floral industry for over a century. At its inception, FTD worked with 13 florists to deliver flowers via the telegraph—a revolutionary idea at the time. Since then, FTD has established its ProFlowers arm of the business and has grown into a nationwide network of local florists. ProFlowers partnership with Uber Eats is an opportunity for the brand to reach even more consumers and further support their extended florist network with additional delivery options.
SAN FRANCISCO, July 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: UBER) announced an exclusive partnership with FTD, LLC
FTD, LLC
FTD was founded as Florists' Telegraph Delivery in 1910, to help customers send flowers remotely on the same day by using florists in the FTD network who are near the intended recipient.

We have a diverse selection of high-quality bouquets that are guaranteed to arrive the same day you order. Thanks to our strong partnerships with local florists across the country, you no longer have to wonder, “Where can I get flowers near me?” No matter your location.
An Instacart shopper will select your flowers at your favorite florist, gift shop, or department store, and you can sit back and wait for delivery or a pickup time.
Established in 1910 as a collective of 10 florists, Florists' Transworld Delivery (FTD) used the telegraph to transform the age-old practice of flower-giving.
Although FTD flowers were given very slightly higher ratings overall in our limited test, we found that its mixed bouquets were much smaller than we expected based on the pictures on its site. Plus, though its prices for comparable products were a bit lower, it charged slightly higher fees.
Florists can purchase flowers from wholesalers like BFS, who offer a wide range of fresh cut flowers and floral supplies. Some florists also prefer to source their flowers directly from floral growers, while others prefer to buy from local flower markets.
When ordering flowers online, you may be limited in selecting blooms, arrangements, and vases. Some online florists may offer a narrow range of options. The bouquets available for purchase may be less creative or unique than those in a brick-and-mortar florist shop.
If you're pressed for time, need to send flowers internationally or to harder-to-reach parts of the US, a floral wire service like FTD is your best bet. There are other similar services like 1-800-Flowers and Teleflora, but we have been less impressed with bouquets we've received from them.
In May 2023, FTD merged with From You Flowers, LLC. Michael Chapin, founder and CEO of From You Flowers, took over as CEO of the combined companies. From You Flowers, LLC does not have any retail locations and depend on florists within wire service networks to complete their orders.
Though not mandatory, flower deliveries may warrant a $5 to $10 tip for average-sized bouquets, plants, and arrangements. If they're bringing multiple arrangements, large plants, or other difficult-to-carry items, the tip should be around $10 to $20 depending on the total cost of the order.
If you add your recipient's mobile number at checkout, we'll text them to let them know you sent a gift via Instacart and when they can expect it to arrive. Some high-value items require a certified delivery. Recipients must sign for the delivery or have their ID scanned as proof of receipt.
FTD (Florists' Transworld Delivery) is an online flower delivery service that's been in business since 1910. It offers delivery to all 50 states and more than 150 countries, and sources its bouquets from local florists contracted by FTD, allowing for same-day and next-day flower delivery in most areas.
Two leading floral and gifting companies have completed a merger. FTD LLC is merging with U.S. floral e-commerce company From You Flowers LLC. Michael Chapin, founder and CEO of From You Flowers, who takes over as CEO of the combined companies.
ProFlowers, part of the FTD family, offers a large selection of flowers, plants, and gourmet gift baskets compared to many other services. Their flower arrangements and gift baskets are modern and sleek (with fun and cute options as well).
Some online florists add a finders fee and commission fee, bringing the total cost way up. The quality may not match the price you pay. When they charge extra for a vase, and you do not include it, the arrangement is delivered without the vase. A local florist will save you money and deliver a better arrangement.
A local florist means you're buying directly from the source. So you won't pay the added markup that comes with ordering online. The markup is the difference between what retailers pay the florist for the flowers and what they charge customers. So you'll skip this when buying locally and get a better deal.
FTD and Alzheimer's disease are both conditions that can severely affect and disrupt a person's life. Generally, FTD affects people at a younger age than Alzheimer's disease. But there's no way to define whether one condition is better or worse than the other because these conditions affect everyone differently.
