From Exotic Imports To Familiar Friends
The trees at Powerscourt have been planted over the past two centuries and there are now hundreds of varieties for visitors to enjoy. Today they may look quite familiar, but in the 19th century they were mostly new and exotic trees, collected from the Americas and all over the world. Thanks to Viscount Powerscourt’s tree planting programme of 1870, Powerscourt today boasts many wonderful tree species including Douglas-Firs, Corsican Pines, Giant Redwoods, Atlantic Cedars, Noble Firs and countless more.
The River Walk at Powerscourt features the tallest tree in Ireland, a Douglas Fir. The tree stands at 61.5 metres, or 202 ft, towering above well-known landmarks including Dublin's Liberty Hall (59.5 m) and Niagara Falls (51m).
Known for their allure and aesthetic, cherry trees stand as a symbol of beauty. The cherry blossoms that bloom around spring are also seen as a sign of renewal.
Hyperion was discovered on August 25, 2006, by naturalists Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor. The tree was verified as standing 115.55 m (379.1 ft) tall by Stephen Sillett. It was found in a remote area of Redwood National Park that was part of the original 1968 park boundaries.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks boast many of the world's largest trees by volume. The General Sherman Tree is the largest in the world at 52,508 cubic feet (1,487 cubic meters). The General Grant Tree is the second largest at 46,608 cubic feet (1,320 cubic meters).

Another nickname of the Albizia julibrissin is Persian Sleeping Tree, because of the leaves that fold at night and in strong winds and go into a 'sleeping position'. But the most intriguing nickname must be the Tree of Collective Happiness, as the Albizia julibrissin is known in China. The reason: its medicinal effect.
Once this first step has been completed, you can find the second Spider clue under the 'Order' tab in the menu. It reads: "Investigate in the vicinity of the tallest tree in Dublin." The tree is hard to miss and is located in the northeast corner of Dublin, just north of Skall's Rest.
The Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree lookout was first pegged in 1988 as part of Australia's bicentennial celebrations. At 65m above the ground, it is the tallest with a 360-degree view of old growth Karri Forest.
The largest tree in Calaveras Big Trees State Park is the Louis Agassiz tree. It is located in the South Grove. This tree is "only" 250 feet tall, but it is over 25 feet in diameter six feet above the ground!
