Say it with me, Trader Joe's Roasted Garlic and Pesto Pizza with Deep Fried Crust. Emphasis on the deep-fried crust. Deep-fried bread so how bad can make it into a pizza be?

Pizza never goes bad in my household. And my husband prefers pizza without red sauce. There is just one problem: by the time I made this, there was none left for him to try.

So this isn't traditional white pizza either. Instead of globs of ricotta, this is heavy on the parmesan, mozzarella, burrata, with pockets of pesto and roasted garlic.

Neither the pesto nor the roasted garlic was overwhelming. Instead, they were a pleasant compliment to the cheese.

I did not miss the red sauce here.

And I was totally digging the fried bread. Usually, I think a lot of fried freezer items come out a bit greasy. Here the opposite is true. This helps keep the crust oh so crusty. Plus it makes it thick enough to grab.

I hid the two leftover slices in the back of the refrigerator so my husband wouldn't find them. We don't share leftovers well in our household. So yes, we hide food from each other.

The next day when I grabbed the slices I had one cold- nice and crispy. And when I reheated the other one in the microwave for 20 seconds it was still crispy.

Normally, pizza gets soggy in the microwave. This pizza still had a good amount of crispiness to it.

Overall, this is pretty solid and at least in my local stores seems to sell out pretty quickly. If you can't find it, then you can always reach for Monteli Pizza Crusts that are also in the frozen section and make your own (albeit not fried but still pretty solid).

The packaging

This is packaged in a box. There is a layer of plastic covering the pizza.

Overall

For $5.99 this is probably the best-frozen pizza Trader Joe's has on shelves.

Would I buy this again?Yes, I would buy Trader Joe's Roasted Garlic and Pesto Pizza again. It was totally awesome. Totally worth hiding it from the members of your household if you don't like to share either.

I really LOVE this pizza!!! Honestly they need sell the deep fried crust alone as a blank canvas. The crust is amazing with unique texture and that chew. Despite the name of deep fried crust it's not like a grease sponge.

I tried this due to all of the positive comments on various reviews. I am normally a fan of thin crust pizza. Although I found it interesting and unique and its crust it was just too much crust for me and not enough toppings. I liked it but will most likely not be re-purchasing it. Luckily, have an awesome artisan pizza place within a few miles of me.

I sprinkled quite a bit of extra mozzarella on top then out of the oven I added arugula and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Absolutely delicious!!

When to put pesto on pizza? ›

To me, a good pesto pizza should have bold pesto flavor. I don't want it to taste faintly of basil, garlic, Parmesan and olive oil—I want those flavors to bowl me over. The key is to spread a generous layer of pesto over the pizzas before baking, and then top them with more pesto when they come out of the oven.

Is pesto pizza healthier? ›

Usually pizzas are high calorie and high in saturated fat due to an overload of marinara and cheese but a great substitute for the sauce is pesto (homemade or store bought) and less cheese. What Kind of Cheese Should I Use? I used fresh mozzarella because I love the way it melts, but you can use block or grated mozzarella in its place (that's usually more affordable as well). Other types of cheese that would work great with pesto are: smoked mozzarella, gruyere, swiss, brie, or white cheddar.
