The pros: Trader Joe's Almond Danish Kringle is not actually a Trader Joe's branded product, but a well done one. It freezes well and this flavor was delicious. It can be ordered online through the company, however buying it at Trader Joe's is the most cost effective.

The cons: The flavors of the Kringles can be seasonal. Might be too sweet for some.

The verdict: Every now and again, I'll find something worth writing about. I had seen some people raving about the kringle online, but I had never had a kringle or knew what to look for. I found it. It was delicious.

This kringle is not actually a Trader Joe's product, but rather from a company called O&H Danish Bakery. For $7.99 you'll pay at Trader Joe's, it's far cheaper than the shipping and handling cost alone of shipping a kringle out to you. Plus, in store these are as fresh as anything.

What is a kringle? From what I can tell it's a Scandinavian variety of pretzel. Now, this does not have much in common with the salt covered pretzel that you might be thinking of. This is a sweet variety that is more of a reference to its shape than texture. This pastry is absolutely sweet from the frosting down to the almond layers. But oh, this is so very good.

Warmed slightly per the directions, you get a treat for breakfast or dessert. The thin layers are what make this product so special. The thin layers are somewhat reminiscent of a croissant, but this lacks the firm outside. Rather than a glob of filling, the filling is lightly spread throughout the interior layers.

If you see this and haven't tried it, it's worth picking up just once. I adored the almond one and look forward to trying others. Also, if you are wondering, yes, this product freezes well so you can portion control it first and just take what you need.

I guess if Trader Joe sold it under their name, it might be named Krisp.

My Trader Joe's sold out of these kringles a couple of weeks ago. I was waiting until closer to Christmas to buy and didn't get one! They're so delicious - my favorite pastry treat. Next year, I'll buy early and keep in freezer. The pecan kringles will be available in March and now I know not to wait. If not serving for a crowd, I'll slice into individual servings and wrap in saran wrap before freezing. They keep beautifully. What was I thinking by not buying early???

You really have to go to O & H’s bakery, because it sounds like TJs is only selling the basic flavors. They make a lot – A LOT – of different kringles, and most are excellent. What’s really cool, though, is their rotating “Flavor of the Month,” which is often a one-and-done kringle, as in “after this month, good luck seeing it again.” The one they’ve got now that’s really tasty is their “Brandy Old Fashioned,” and a couple with berry filling – you’d love them.

Hey Jenna! I wish O&H were closer. I'm in NY so it's quite a bit of a road trip to head over there. I went to the website and I was blown away by all the flavors that they do offer. One day I'll get there. Have you been to their bakery?

I tried the Almond Danish. For me, much too sweet. However, it is a good quality product. Those who like danish and don’t mind being sweet, this is a great bakery item at a fantastic price at Trader Joe’s. It is much better than any danish ring you buy in most stores.

Hey Lou! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. And I couldn't agree more with it being of better quality than what you can normally pick up in the grocery store. Thanks again for taking the time out of your day to share!

Very delicious, the almond one is. But I agree with Lou, it’s too sweet. I wish I could buy a version of it without the glaze on top. It’s not needed. Note that you can scrape most of the glaze off if you want to. That helps a bit to cut down the sweet overload.

Cut a piece for yourself and heat it up in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. That really brings out the flavors.

Hey St! Have you visited O&H's website? They do sell these online (and a whole lot more flavors that what TJs gets), but as a downside those are expensive. And yes, I microwave mine too. And yes, that is all you need. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!

The flavor du jour this month is Pumpkin, and it's totally scrumptious. One of my colleagues brought it to the office for a meeting treat. I had to ask where she got it, and she certainly let me know where I could find it. She then added, "it's addicting!" I have to agree! It's so worth it.

Mfg website sells Almond Kringle $22.49, Trader Joe's has exact same product $7.99. Not sure why OH has this and all their products at sky rocket prices. They're all delicious and Trader Joe's says they rotate different OH products every few months.
