  1. BUYING THE 100% BEESWAX CANDLE IS HELPING HALT THE DECLINE OF THE HONEYBEE

BATCH #001beeswaxis sourced direct from micro-beekeepers, who are on a mission to halt the decline of the honeybee.

Bees pollinate around a third of the food we eat and 80% of flowering plants. Pollination is crucial because many of our vegetables, fruits and the crops that feed our livestock rely on it to be fertilised, so without it, we could go hungry. While there are other methods of pollination, wild bees are among the most important pollinators because they arecapable of pollinating on a much bigger scale.

Bees are in decline globally as they face many threats, from habitat loss to the use of toxic pesticides and industrial farming. If these threats aren’t brought under control, we could be looking at a future without bees.

The beekeepers we work with employ ethical and cruelty free practises, and operate on a small scale. Their primary concern are their bees and making sure they are happy and healthy – second to that is the honey and beeswax created. We are proud to work in collaboration with these brilliant beekeepers.

  1. IT BURNS DIFFERENTLY TO OTHER CANDLES

The 100% Beeswax Candle burns powerfully for the first few minutes, as the wax powers through the wick. When using the first time (and each time after that), we recommend that you burn for4 hours, so that the wax (almost) reaches the edge of the jar, this prevents tunnelling and makes the candle last longer.Never burn the candle for short periods of time, 2hours or less– this can also cause tunnelling, as there is not enough time for the wax pool to melt to the edge ofthe jar, as beeswax is a hard wax. It may take 2 or 3, 4 hour burns for the wax to melt right to the edges of the jar. This is because beeswax is a hard wax that burns slowly, and also longer than other candle waxes.

Always trim the wick to 5mm before lighting the candle –This removes carbon from the end of the wick and means the flame will be larger. This in turn helps the flame burn bigger and brighter, and will help the wax burn all the way to the edge of the jar, which preventstunnelling. Always ensure the wick is upright – If the wick leans to one side, the melt pool will be uneven.

We recommend extinguishing the candle by dipping the flame in the wax melt pool. This extinguishes the flame without causing any smoke, and it also coats the wick in melted beeswax, which helps secure a powerful flame next time you light the candle.

Please remember that beeswax candles burn differently to all other wax candles.Beeswaxhas a different composition depending on the flowers the bees have pollinated. This means every candle will burn differently and will have quirks and imperfections. The wax may crack in between burns and it may burn unevenly. Beeswax will not melt like soy wax or paraffin wax candles – it will have its own way of burning, this is part of the charm of beeswax candles and we love its imperfections. If you want a candle to behave in a uniform way and be “perfect”, beeswax candles may not be for you.
