Top 10 Most Powerful Naruto Summons

Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the top 10 most powerful “Naruto” summons.
For this list, we’ll be going over the most powerful creatures and beings which ninjas can summon from elsewhere in the “Naruto” franchise.
If you think we skipped out on a useful summon, let us know in the comments!

#10: Ibuse

Hanzo the Salamander is the former leader of the Rain Village. His moniker is well-earned, as it’s derived from his famous summon, Ibuse, who is, appropriately, a salamander. And a huge one at that! While his size is certainly a factor in his strength, Ibuse’s greatest power is his ability to breath a poison mist from his mouth. In addition to influencing his summoner’s gas mask look, Ibuse can also paralyze and kill a target within minutes with this mist. However, it takes around 5 minutes for the salamander to recharge between releasing the mist, which can be a pretty big downside. Ibuse is eventually killed during Hanzo’s post-mortem battle with Mifune. That’s what happens when you swallow a samurai.

#9: Kamatari

This weasel goes considerably more than “pop.” The summon of Temari, Kamatari is seldom seen, particularly in canon material, but that’s probably because he’s so OP! The eye-patching sporting creature is summoned holding a sickle the size of his body. The little guy then spins a path of destruction strong enough to level a huge section of forest and defeat strong opponents. For how small he is, Kamatari is amazingly powerful! If we’re talking strength per pound, Kamatari would easily be higher up. He’s like a hurricane packed into a little furry body!

#8: Monkey King: Enma

The summon of the 3rd Hokage, Monkey King Enma is as powerful and stately as his title suggests. Enma was the partner of Sarutobi for decades, having joined him in battle and in giving council during his shinobi career. In addition to having physical strength enough to ward off multiple former Hokages, Enma can also transform into a magical staff, likely in reference to the real-world legend of Sun Wukong. He was strong enough to knock the Nine Tails out of the Leaf Village, even if it was briefly. Not bad for a monkey on a stick! Or in one, as the case may be.

#7: Manda

The largest summoning snake and most often associated with Orochimaru, and later Sasuke, Manda is one arrogant purple serpent. Bloodthirsty to the point of demanding human sacrifices for food, Manda is absolutely vicious in battle. Ultimately, he meets his end after being summoned by Sasuke to guard himself against a massive explosion. Although Manda does lose his life because of it, it’s still impressive that he wasn’t vaporized by the huge attack!

#6: Gamabunta

The boss of the toad summons, Gamabunta is like if a kaiju was also a yakuza. Along with rocking a pipe and a swag vest, Gamabunta the one amphibian you don’t want to mess with. The toad towers over forests and can go toe-to-toe with Tailed Beasts and other large summons alike. Capable of releasing both oil and water from his mouth, Gamabunta is also skilled with a sword. And by sword, we mean a blade the size of a building! Having served alongside three generations of Leaf ninja, Gamabunta is one tough old toad whose skills haven’t dulled with age.

#5: Katsuyu

A giant slug may not seem powerful in concept, but Katsuyu has some spectacular abilities! The partner summon of Tsunade and Sakura, Katsuyu is a healer, just like them. It is also able to divide itself into many smaller versions of itself, which can heal thousands of people at a time, albeit not as powerfully as in her large form. It’s also surprisingly durable. Its many versions can also communicate telepathically, which makes her invaluable during the Fourth Shinobi War. Oh, and it also spits acid! With powerful offensive, defensive, and utility abilities, Katsuyu is arguably the most powerful “normal” summon around.

#4: Demonic Statue of the Outer Path

One of the most bizarre parts of “Naruto” lore, the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path is the husk of the Ten Tails’ body that was sealed in the moon. Yep. Used primarily by the Akatsuki, the Demonic Statue can absorb the chakra of the Tailed Beasts, as well as their bodies, into itself. It’s also an enormous, mobile, humanoid statue that can release shock waves, which lets it wreak plenty of havoc on the battlefield. Plus, it’s kind of terrifying.

#3: Shinigami

No, it’s not a crossover with “Bleach.” The Shinigami aka the Reaper, is a spectral being that is notable for being related to one of the strongest sealing techniques. Through the sacrifice of the summoner’s soul, the Shinigami can steal the soul of a target and consume it, leaving it trapped inside the Shinigami’s stomach for eternity. Well, unless you use a special mask which the user can don and cut open their stomach and therefore the Shinigami’s; freeing whoever’s inside. While the toll it exacts is great, the Shinigami’s dominion over souls is incredibly powerful.

#2: Kurama

That’s right! The Nine-Tailed Fox, a.k.a. Kurama is technically a summoned beast! While he spends most of the franchise sealed inside Naruto, Kurama has also been summoned by several members of the Uchiha clan, notably Madara and Obito. With Kurama under the control of their Sharingan, these two villains were able to wreak a lot of havoc. Madara went up against his rival Hashirama, often called the strongest ninja in history, with Kurama’s help. Obito, meanwhile, used Kurama to attack Konoha and killed the Fourth Hokage. As a Tailed-Beast, Kurama is living chakra, can destroy mountains with the sweep of a paw, and fire huge energy blasts. So what could possibly be stronger?

#1: Impure World Reincarnation a.k.a. Edo Tensei

The ability to revive the dead is already an extremely OP, regardless of which anime you’re talking about. But the Impure World Reincarnation summoning, or Edo Tensei, allows its caster to control the people summoned. Given enough grave robbing, this allows the summoner to create an undead army of the strongest people to ever live. And that’s basically what the entire final war arc of “Naruto Shippuden” is – every legendary ninja from generations past brought back to fight against, or in a few cases for, the living. Given how powerful many of those ninjas are, it’s a miracle the allied forces won at all!
