Time, energy and money. (2024)

The past months, I have chosen to see time, energy and money as different ways of measuring the same thing. What you are measuring, is your ability to create the life that you want for yourself.

Time, energy and money. (1)

If you use most of your time doing something than you don't like, or in denial of what you are doing, you won't have any energy afterwards to enjoy doing what you love the most. But sometimes, it's not so much about the time you invest, but the energy that you loose while doing these things. And ultimately, you generate money using your time and energy, so the better and smarter you use these 2, the more money you will be able to generate.

Have you ever been sitting on your chair at work, in front of your PC, waiting for that last 9-5 hours to be over? I often see people just staying at work because ''they have to'', not even being able to do anything productive in that last hour of work because their energy is just gone. So in this case, you may have time, but you don't have energy, so you are not winning as much as you could.

We may think that we are being paid for our hours, which is theoretically true. But really, you are being paid by your results, even if your contract does not state this. So if you are not producing any more results in that last hour, you better just use it for something else. This could be either just getting some rest, or switching gears and being productive at something that your creativity can still serve you for.

Throwing everything away

I see wasting time as throwing money outside the window. I would never do that, so I choose to also not waste my time or give it away to people that don't appreciate it. I see energy the same way. If I just give away my energy during the day, I know that later during my free time, I may have time, but if I don't have energy, what does it matter that I have time?

For a long time I was only mindful about my money, but never really so much about my time and energy. It was only a few months back that I realised that by giving away my time and energy, I am also limiting my degree of freedom.

Save your energy, and time will follow

Time and energy really go by the hand.

Have you ever felt that you maybe have time to move forward on that incredible idea that you have, but your energy levels can not sustain your actions?

Or maybe you have felt the opposite; you have all this energy and willingness to act, but you can't find any time to actually do it.

If you have experienced any of these, trust me, I understand how frustrating they both can be. But also believe me when I tell you that the first thing to do, you have just done, which is noticing that this is a reality. And the second thing, is mainly becoming incredibly mindful about this. The moment you start being mindful about time and energy, your decisions will be completely different, and you will create both of them,

I will share with you the approach that I use, and I am hoping that you will also apply this in your life, because I am sure that it will make a huge difference for you, as it did for me.

Set your intention and live it

The first thing that I do at the beginning of the day, is to set the intention of being mindful about my time and energy.

If during the day, I notice that I don't have too much power over my time because I have been asked to do to many things, that's fine. In that case, I choose to preserve my energy. What this means is that I make the decision to not let my energy leak over disagreements, arguments, negative comments, useless conversations and irrelevant tasks. You know what these are and who triggers you to fall into them. Don't let them. Let people be who they are, but be responsible for who you are. Nobody can force you to do anything, and much less if it's leaking your energy in a unproductive way.

The interesting thing is that when you choose to not leak your energy on unproductive things, you become much more efficient and you save plenty of time that you did not think that you could save. Other people continue to let their time spill through their fingers, but now you know better and you won't allow that to happen. Now you are saving both energy and time. And guess what, this means that if you wanted to, you could find a way to generate more money, because as they say, time really is money.

It's your choice

Don't allow people to choose the way in which you spend your time and energy. Please don't. If it makes you feel better, and you want to stay out of arguments, make them feel that they can. But at the very core, make sure that you are always choosing what's best for you.

At the end of the day, if your health, joy and freedom are affected by your decisions, you are the only one who will have to face the consequences. So be brave. be bold. Stand up for yourself and choose what you know is right for you. Do it now, when you are still on time.
