The Weird Reason You Should Never Decorate With Dead Flowers (2)

As much as it sucks when the beautiful flowers you picked up at the local market wilt, well, almost instantly, it's amazing when they dry out so perfectly that they can live on and give your home a vintage, chic vibe—at least until someone bumps into them and they crumble all over the place.

People have been using dead flowers as decor for years. In fact, you can buy them on Etsy, and some people are ordering dried-out bouquets for their wedding day.

I completely understand why people are feeling these—they're so pretty—but you might want to think twice the next time you consider holding on to your dead flowers, especially if you're all for positive energy.

A friend recently shared a picture on Instagram of dried out flowers hanging from behind her bed. It seemed great, until it wasn't. People were telling her to take them down ASAP, and I was ready to take them off of her hands, until I looked into it a bit more.

In Feng Shui, there's something called Chi, which is the energy in your home. Having strong Chi in your house is said to bring in positive energy, which will help you focus on your goals, and having bad Chi does the exact opposite, ushering in negative vibes. You know what has bad Chi? Dead flowers. The belief is that when flowers dry, they lose their Chi and drain a home's vitality. Yikes.

The good news, however, is that there are some exceptions to these rules. According to Feng Shui consultant Rodika Tchi, the challenge with dried flowers is to keep its energy fresh and special. "Ask your heart what it is thinking about your dried flowers. If you feel beautiful, healing energy connected to them, then of course keep them and treat it in a special way," she writes in a blog post. While it might not be the best for your Chi to buy dried-out flowers and bring them into your home, it wouldn't be awful to hold on to a flower from a loved one that you feel a connection to.
