Just the bare facts: it turns out that when it comes to guys’ preferences for women’s pubic hair, less really is more.
AskMen conducted a three-day survey with the goal of figuring out what guys’ attitudes are towards women’s pubic hair. After more than 5000 peopleresponded,the overwhelming majority being men, the results are in: and once again it proves that the Brazilian is king. In the survey, 41% of respondents said that they prefer women to have no pubic hair whatsoever. Close second was, with 38% of respondents, the opinion that women should have some well-groomed and trimmed pubic hair.
If that sounds confusing (41% of men want something, 38% of men want something else), the survey also revealed that pubic hair wouldn’t actually affect how men date. An overwhelming amount of men, 85%, said that it wouldn’t stop them from hooking up with a woman or dating her based on pubic hair.

“While I have personal preferences, a woman has the final say in what she wants to do with her area down below,” said one respondent. “No way. If that's what she likes you wont change her mind. It will be how she feels sexiest, and why change that. If you would like her to change it you could suggest something or make an experience and do it for/with her,” another pointed out. An even bigger majority, 91%, said they’d never ended a date or sexual encounter early because of women’s grooming choices.
It seems like there might be another option as well; four in 10 men surveyed said they had incorporated some sort of waxing or shaving into foreplay.
Not Just Women
“I shave my own as well. I am not a hypocrite, I said I hate pubic hair, on them and myself as well,” said one respondent to the last question on the survey: “Do you feel pressure to groom your own pubic hair?”
Almost half of men said they groomed themselves because of personal preference; about 40% of men admitted that they either felt pressure because of general “manscaping” standards, or because they felt that if women were grooming themselves, they should as well. Only 12% of men said they felt “no pressure” to groom. A few male respondents admitted to having Brazilian waxes, sometimes known as "bikini waxes," themselves.
Men also noted that they found a woman who "didn't fuss about grooming but was comfortable in her own skin" to be sexier than a "woman who put as much time and money as it takes into making sure she fits your idea of perfection" by 63% to 37%.
Oral Fixation
Full bikini waxes and a preference for “bare” grooming aren’t just about looks. A huge number of men were quick to point out that they really, really don’t like going down on women who have loads of pubic hair.
“Oral plays a big part in overall satisfaction and that's not easy in an overgrown forest,” said one respondent. Another said, “I would still hook up but would not go down on her.”
So what does this all mean? Men clearly care about women’s grooming, and yes, going bare is the most popular option. But a big part of that might have to do with the fact that male-on-female oral sex is becoming way less taboo and way more common. And guys, assuming that they want their partners to reciprocate (and really, how many guys have you met that wouldn’t?) often are just as careful about their own grooming habits.
As one respondent said: “Refuse to date? No. Refuse to "pleasure?" Maybe. If I'm gonna get hair between my teeth, I'm out. But I do maintain the same standards myself.”
