You are called to be different. Yes, you are in this world but you don’t have to be like everybody in this world.
People are drowning in debt; they are struggling to make ends meet and they are losing sleep over their finances.
But that doesn’t have to be you.
God’s will for your life is for you to prosper and be in health even as your souls prosper. It is not His will for you to be a slave of your debts.
This Christian way to get out of debt will help you break free from the chains of poverty, lack, worry, stress, and debt. It will bring financial freedom that will bless your life and your family.
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.

9 Steps to get out of debt
1. Pray
Place your journey to financial freedom in God’s hands. Ask for wisdom and knowledge.
Commit yourself before The Lord to follow His guidelines for success that are found in His word and trust Him with your finances.
2. Keep Tithing and Giving
Many people when they find themselves in financial trouble the first thing they do is to stop tithing and giving. This is a huge mistake.
When you give, you are sowing a seed that will eventually bring much fruit. When you stop giving, you stop your future harvest. You will never get apples if you never plant an apple tree.
This is the law of Seedtime and Harvest.
When you give your tithes and offerings, you are not only showing God that you trust Him with your finances; you are also being obedient and obedience brings blessing.
It doesn’t matter how tight your situation is, always give. You can also give your time, give compassion, give love, give food, give clothes. Never stop giving.

3. Cut up all but one credit card
You don’t have to close your cards, but you need to cut all your cards but one. Leave one card for emergencies only.
Billy Epperhart recommends that you freeze the only credit card you keep. Put your credit card in a container with water and put it in the freezer.
This keeps you from impulse buying since you have to wait for the card to thaw. It gives you time to think if you really need to use your card or not.
4. Do not add any new debt
Make a commitment to not add any more debt. It’s time to take responsibility for your actions and change the habits that got you in debt in the first place.
5. Make a list of all your debt
Make a list of all your debt. Do not list them in order of the highest interest. But list them in order of which ones you can pay off the fastest by using minimum payments.

6. Start paying
Pay the minimum payments on all your debts.
7. Pay extra
Determine how much extra you can add to the first debt on your list. So, all your extra money will go into the debt that can be paid off the quickest. This is called the debt snowball.
8. On to the next
Once a debt is paid off, apply that monthly payment to the next debt on your list. Keep doing this until all your debt is paid off.
It may take you 1 year, 3 years, 5 years or more to finish paying your debt, depending on the size of your debt. But once you are done you will be glad you did it.
9. Speak Life over your finances
The Bible tells us the death and life are in the power of the tongue. There is power in the words you speak. Just like God created the world with His words, we create our future with the words we speak.
What are you saying about your finances?
Are you confessing that you are always broke?
Are you confessing that you will never get out of debt?
Are you saying that your situation will never change?
Are you saying that you are not good with money?
What do you need to say in order to create a better future with your words?
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
Mark 11:23
Make sure you are speaking life over your situation and over your finances. Speak of those things that are not as though they were. That is faith and remember without faith it is impossible to please God.
So instead of saying:
- “I am broke” say,…….. “My God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory, I have more than enough”
- “I’m bad with money” say, ………..“I’m a great steward of the money God has given me”
- “I will never get out of debt” say, ……… “The blessing of The Lord makes truly rich and it adds no sorrow with it”
Change what you are saying and you will change what you are seeing.

This Christian way to get out of debt requires sacrifice, requires faith and requires you being focus on your goal.
The good news is that YOU GOT THIS!!! You can do all things with Christ who gives you strength.
- You can be debt-free.
- You can have a big savings account.
- You can be a blessing to others.
- You can have a lot of money saved for retirement.
- You can prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.
Scriptures to stand against debt
Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.Matthew 6:31-33
And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:8

Helpful tips to get out of debt faster
- Accept responsibility for your actions.
- Be willing to learn and change.
- Start using coupons.
- Cut cable.
- Stop going out to eat.
- Plan your weekly menu and write down a grocery list.
- Brew your own coffee.
- Find free entertainment.
- Get a part-time job or a side hustle.
- Set up a realistic budget.
- Learn to say no.
- Sell items you don’t need.
- Listen to encouraging podcasts about money-saving and budgeting.
- Be content with what you have.
- Accumulate no new debt.
- Be patient and don’t give up.
- Don’t worry about keeping up with the Jones’s. Be you!
- Focus on your goal and know that with God’s help you can be debt-free soon.
- Live below your means.
A Christian way to get out of debt is not an easier way. It’s putting God first in everything you do. Let Him guide you and help you on this journey.
