Techelet - The Jewish Museum London (2024)

Jewish Museum London is now delivering our learning programmes and collections displays in the community & around the UK. Come and visit us at Swiss Cottage Library from 7 March to 4 April.

Techelet is the Hebrew word used to refer to an ancient special blue dye. In the Torah God commands the Hebrews to attach tassels (tzitzit) to the four corners of their garments to remind them of the commandments of the Torah, and that one of the strings should be Techelet, a blue colour. Many Jews today wear tzitzit on undershirts or on prayer shawls, but often the tassels do not have a blue thread.
