This Genshin Impact guide contains information on how to defeat the boss, Tartaglia located in Liyue. Tartaglia is the first weekly boss that also appears as a character you can roll for. In addition, this guide will also provide several tips and tricks that will help you take down Tartaglia, as well as the rewards on offer.

Toward the end of Chapter One: Act III: A New Star Approaches, you'll be forced into a battle with Childe, the eleventh of the Fatui Harbingers. It's the second big boss battle of the campaign and, like Stormterror, takes place in its own domain. Getting through it alive is the only way to complete the rest of the chapter.

While it may only suggest your party be at level 35, it automatically scales with your World Level. Here's how to beat Childe in this three-part battle.

Tartaglia's boss fight is located at Liyue in the Golden House. This is where you'll first fight him and where it will stay after you beat him in the Archon quests.

Childe uses two elements throughout the battle: Hydro, then Electro, then both, and can swap between ranged and melee in an instant. The whole fight is a lengthy endurance test, making Elemental RES potions and DEF food a good thing to consider. Just take it slow. Put evasion and mitigation ahead of raw damage or you'll eventually run out of supplies. Read his moves and wait for an opening from his heavier attacks.

As for team building, a healer of some sort is an absolute must. Shields won't go amiss, either. Cryo characters like Qiqi and Diona will should be able to help by inflicted Freeze during the Hydro phases while also tossing out heals and shields to the team. If going this route, a Geo character like Traveller can do decent damage with Shatter, but it's a time for a well-built Noelle to shine with, you guessed it, shields and heals.

As for attackers, Pyro seems to work well, but I personally doubled up with Xiangling and Bennett purely for the sustained damage of the former's Normal Attacks, with Bennett coming in to drop his ultimate as a backup heal and much-appreciated ATK boost. They're a bit risky against the rapid Hydro moves, but it beats bringing an Electro character that's only going to deal damage half of the time.

When the battle first starts, Childe will focus on using Hydro attacks. He'll begin using ranged moves with his bow before separating it into two daggers for melee if you're close enough.

You'll need to keep a watchful eye on the shape his weapons take to know what to look out for. If he covers himself in a Hydro veil for a moment, there's an attack coming. Deal enough damage to the veil to break it, almost locking Childe into a stagger for as long as you keep the attacks coming.

While his bow is out, Childe will either fire six fast Hydro arrows, or a couple heavy, slower shots with a melee stomp at the end. You can get a few attacks in as you evade heavier ones, but to keep from losing too much HP at the start of the fight, you should aim to side-step the faster three-hit combo.

Once his daggers are out, expect wide-reaching melee attacks that extra quite a bit ahead of him. Obviously a ranged character wouldn't go amiss here, but if you have shield and heals on your side, just focus on evading to his rear. You'll either dodge the attacks outright or be in an iframe when they hit.

Once his HP hits 1% or so, get away from him. He'll trigger a Hydro wave for damage and then pop his veil for another splash of a hit, revealing his Electro form.

In Electro form, Childe uses a polearm and even longer twin daggers. Again, it's just a matter of watching his every move.

With the polearm out, Childe will spin it like a baton and do a frontal 180-degree arc with a decent reach. Just like his other melee attacks, you'll want to dash behind to avoid it. He'll likely follow up with a similar move from the daggers, so get your attacks in and dodge again. There's a form of this move where he'll do some rapid dagger slashes before ending on the same heavy swing, so if there's no second-long interval before an attack, there's probably a flurry coming your way.

One attack to watch out for here is his multi-hit dash across the arena. If you see him slowly arching forward with his polearm, get ready to dodge. A lot. He'll dash through you between two and four times total, with each coming from his last position. Get the rhythm down and you'll be able to iframe each with a tap of the run button. His final strike is a good time to retaliate. Break the Electro veil he puts up and you'll lock him into a stagger that he rarely comes back from.

Knock him out again to trigger one more, lengthy cutscene that results in Childe becoming enraged. Now in his final form, it's time to feel the pain of large AoE attacks. If you fall here, you'll have to sit through the whole set of cutscenes again to get another chance.

Now enraged, Childe will be in his true Harbinger form, dishing out both Hydro and Electro attacks at a moments notice. He'll still be using his polearm/dagger combo (and the weapon type won't dictate which element he'll use), but everything is just bigger: bigger reach, wider acts, and far more damage. In fact, the daggers are big enough to be classed as swords. And he has two of them. Like the playable form of his character, his attacks leave Elemental marks on you, which can then be triggered by his many Elemental Bursts of the opposite element for massive damage.

There are too many variations of his attacks to properly document and keep track at this point. Instead, just focus on the types of attacks he can dish out with his weapons again. When the swords are out, expect frontal swings, with heavier attacks hitter further ahead than the rest. When at a distance (like with ranged characters) Hydro slashes will fire from his swords, and he'll occasionally drop bolts of lightning on you from his hands.

For melee characters, it's another case of dashing behind him as much as you can handle. Otherwise, shield up and eat the smaller hits so that you can deal focus dealing damage and evading only the heavier ones. You should get more moments to strike after the heavy blows go out.

With the polearm, cleave attacks become a major concern again. Watch for when the weapon begins to glow. When Childe holds it by his side and leans in, it should light up. That's the sign for his new and improved dash. It starts with a linear attack that fires forward from the weapon, with Childe then teleporting to the end of the path and rushing back toward you multiple times, culminating in an gyser-style attack that errupts along a final path. You'll have a decent amount of time to attack him after this.

Once Childe starts to inch toward 50% HP, he'll introduce you to his ultimate attacks in rather quick succession. Each will pop an existing mark of the opposite element that's already on you for additional damage, typically leading to a one-shot. Here's how to anticipate and avoid each. He'll be dealing damage of the opposite type to his next ultimate as a means to apply the deadly mark against you, so use that information to gauge which he's likely to use.

Breach - Hydro

If Childe suddenly teleports away from you, get ready to run. If he's at a far end of the area, he's about to summon a hulking Hydro whale to drop on top of you. To evade, you'll need to run all the way to the other side of the arena, behind Childe. You won't have much time.

Eruption - Hydro

Another "ultimate" attack Childe can use to trigger a mark stems from his bow. If he whips that out and aims upward, prepare to hug an intercardinal edge of the arena, or rush to the middle to avoid the large Hydro geysers on the ground.

Thunder Crash - Electro

If Childe sheaths his weapon and slowly rises up, he's about to dive your last position. He'll mark the spot with a tiny bit of Electro and come crashing down after a few seconds, dealing massive Electro DMG in a wide circle. The basic solution here is to run as far away from the mark as you can.

With those over with, you've seen more or less everything Childe has to offer. Just repeat the process until he falls.

After your hard-fought battle against Tartaglia, here are the potential rewards you might receive:

  • Tusk of Monoceros Caeli
  • Shard of a Foul Legacy
  • Shadow of the Warrior
  • Varunada Lazurite Ascension Crytals (depending on world level can range from fragments to gemstones)
