Arugula – Super Food
We’ll start with ARUGULA since I put it in my smoothie this morning. You wouldn’t imagine that this combo would taste good – berries with arugula, but it really does. It adds a little kick from the peppery arugula and is quite a pleasant flavor. And, what an easy way to eat more. Try it in this V-8 Smoothie!
Arugula and its Superfood Qualities
So for its superfood qualities. At #7 on the top 30 superfood list, arugula is a member of the Brassica family of vegetables called cruciferous – a group that also has other superstar foods such as broccoli, kale, and cabbage.
These vegetables stand out not only for their fiber and antioxidants,but they also are rich in extra-good-for-you compounds known as glucosinolateswhich studies show may reduce the risk of certain cancers — namely lung, colorectal, breast, prostate, and pancreatic.At 7 calories per ounce, you can eat this health food to your heart’s content!
